Workers answer the challenge

WORKERS have kept their Bowls Sunraysia Saturday pennant finals campaign alive with a convincing win over Ouyen at Blackburn Park.

Roger Bray (S), Fred Bacon, Ron Archer and Wayne Long set the Green and Gold unit off on the right step recording a 30-17 win over Alan Crook.

Neville Mitchell followed up collecting the points against Janet Vallance 23-19.

The Two Blues Mick Donaghy kept his running win on track recording a thrilling 26-25 win over Ken Job. The final result saw Workers 78(10) defeat Ouyen 62(2).

Merbein took on Irymple at Kenny Park in a tough encounter.

Jeff Greenhill jumped straight back in to his skips role after a week off piloting his unit of Evan Rice, Eric Watson and John Pineo to a 26-19 win over Graham Lynch.

This result was pivotal for the Hawks’ overall scoreline. Shawn Fullerton went down to Matt West 25-31. The match was on a knife edge.

The Hawks then faced another cliffhanger. David Maud had everything to play for and saluted the judge with a 21-19 win against David Gray.

The Hawks collecting a much-deserved win, 72(10) to 69(2).

Mildura kept their winning form in tact with an all-points win over Red Cliffs.

The Magic opened up a solid margin early but Michael Clifford’s rink mounted a challenge on the run home for the Tigers and levelled the score at 22 apiece.

Not to be denied, Keith Sharman produced a brilliant spell, lifting his team of Isaiah Bettess, Lindsay Lynch and Bob Deacon to a 31-22 win for the Magic.

Mark Eckel accounted for Maurie Press 25-17. Ian Pollock recorded a 24-17 result against Bruce Harford. The Magic winning 80(12)-56(0).

Second division matches went pretty much as predicted.

Mildura defeated Nangiloc 83(11)-58(1). Ken Yeowart (s), Judy Osborne, Russell Kneebone and Chris Richards the best performed for the Magic defeating Jamie Forte 34-18.

Coomealla ran out winners over Workers in a close encounter winning 62(10)-54(2).

Adrian Barko (s), Fred Posgate, Nan Bath and Tania Gust were the match winners for the Cannons, saluting 31-20 over Trish Walters.

Irymple also had a tough day at the office as Ouyen took the game right up to them.

Phil Newton (s), Guss Storer, Chris Scott and Terry Wright defeated Reg Dean 28-18.

The Suns set on Ouyen’s challenge, winning 70(9)-61(3).

Third division ladder leaders Wentworth will take a well earned break over Christmas after recording a massive 103(10)-45(2) win over Workers.

Ivan Behsmann (s), Rodger Smith, Peter Campaign and Doug Parker took the chocolates with a resounding 45-10 win over Don Crothers’ quartet.

Merbein took their match right up to Mildura winning on two rinks.

The Magic’s Mel Southee guided his rink of Joan Bunney, Rob Bartleson and Peter Russell to a 30-16 win over Ollie Dichiera to secure the match points for the visitors. Mildura victorious 72(8)-63(4).

Underbool at home, took all the points over Irymple in a very tight match.

Howard Crothers, John Stone, Leslie Stone and Frankie Gloster were the best-performed rink, winning 24-18 over Gaudern Gray.

Underbool 66(12) defeated Irymple 53(0).

Euston 64(9) recorded a well-fought win over Red Cliffs 60(3).

Charl De Fin (s), Shane Ryan, Graham Smith and Jason Downie securing the points for the Bandits 27-17 over Brendon Cockfield.

Fourth division matches saw Irymple defeat Euston 2 50(8)-39(0).

Reg Giles (s), Jill Duncan, David Woith and Max Cartwright leading the way 26-20 over Tom Lindsay.

Mildura 5 35(0) lost to Underbool 56(8).

Marie Cummings (s), Noeline Crowe, Jennifer Wakefield and Merle Pole the best performed with a 32-18 win over Denis Clarke.

Red Cliffs took the battle right up to Mildura 4. The visitors getting home 45(8)-Red Cliffs 40(0).

Dale Presley-Barwick (s), Cecilia Ferdelja, Mick Powell and Jimmy Presley-Barwick collecting four shots on the last end to get the visitors home.

Coomealla travelled to Bandit country and almost had to handover their valuables when a huge upset almost came off. Rob Nichols kept his rink of Delwyn Milner, Phil Gordon and John Terbogt in focus to get the Cannons across the line. Cannons 42(6) defeated Bandits 40(2).
