Workers vie for top spot

MILDURA Workers’ Division 1 side recorded a narrow win over Ouyen in round 10 of Bowls Sunraysia Midweek Pennant.

Janet Vallance was held to a 23-all draw by Fred Bacon, Ron Archer, Kristina Archer and Dianne Smith, while Ken Job collected a valuable one-shot win over Alan Crook to see the Green and Gold edge ahead.

The deal was sealed when Peter Bishop fired his rink of Mick Rhoden, Lorraine Wallace and Kerry Wallace to a 27-21 win over Sue Kelly.

Workers won a tight game 75-68, taking 11 of the 12 points available to sit level with Mildura on points in second place.

Mildura could only manage one rink up over Red Cliffs at Tigerland, 71(8) to 61(4).

Bruce Harford, Marg Dominelli, Luke Savaidis-Milne and Rozanne Muir took the points over Ken Yeowart 25-21.

Michael Clifford had a win over Isaiah Bettess 20-18, but it was the master blaster Mark Eckel who saved the day for the Magic with a solid 32-16 win over Carolyn Coles.

Irymple continued their good run of form with a 39-shot win over Coomealla, 87(10) to 48(2).

Ian Kellett, Chris Scott, Gail Vance and Tracey Metcalfe provided the lights for the Suns to shine with a 34-12 win with Rob Nichols, Dinky Nichols, Rod Rowe and Nan Bath.

Peter Lambert re-sighted the Cannons, recording a 27-20 win over the Suns’ Grahame Newey, but it was Graeme Phillps, Mick Legin, Wayne Gardner and George Millward who finished the job for the Suns with a solid 33-9 win over Delwyn Milner.

Division 2 side Euston recorded a 13 shot win over Workers 2, 53(6) d 40(2).

Anthony Tormey, Tony Scott, Christine Smith and Maree James got the Bandits on the run with a 35-17 win over Wayne Long. The Workers’ Ron Boyd got two points for his side, defeating Glenn Scott 23-18.

Irymple took all the points over Red Cliffs recording a resounding 40-shot win, 74(8) to 34(0).

Rodney Ellis defeated Graham Bamford 36-1, while alongside them, Ian McLean collected a 38-17 win over Ian Lowes.

Underbool travelled to Cureton Avenue to do battle with Workers 3 and were victorious on all rinks, 45(8) to 38(0).

Robert Gloster collected a tight 19-18 win over Joy Stevens, while Colleen Gloster took out Ian Lowe to win 26-20.

Mildura had a tight match against Wentworth. The Steamers took the match right up to the ladder leaders but lost 43(1) to 47(7).

Dianne Pumpa forced a tie with Reg Gardner 25-all, but it was Judy Morris who collected a 22-18 win for the Magic to get the visitors over the line by four.
