Demolition squad

MERBEIN Hawks have jumped the queue in Division One Saturday pennant bowls with a 58-shot drubbing of Red Cliffs.

Jeff Greenhill, Evan Rice, Jack Anderson and Jamie Knudsen were the Hawks shining lights with a 37-10 demolition of Michael Clifford’s rink.

Greenhill was ably supported by Laurie McLaine’s rink saluting with a 39-17 win over Trevor Clarke and David Maud winning 29-21 over Maurie Press, the Hawks winning 106(12) – 48(0).

At Cureton Avenue, the local derby between Workers and Mildura took a twist with Nevile Mitchell piloting his rink home to win 28-18 over Keith Sharman.

Peter Bishop continued his strong run of form accounting for Butch Pollock 21-15, but it was the “Master Blaster” Mark Eckel along with Bob Deacon, Gary Holmes and Jayden Taylor taking full toll of Fred Bacon, recording a 36-14 win to get the Magic home. Magic winning 69(8) – 63(4).

At Blackburn Park, the home side had a job in front of them hosting the reigning premiers and top of the table Irymple.

Janet Vallance’s rink of Rod Poole, Roy Latta and Ning Pitcher opened proceedings for the home side with a 27-20 win over Matt West.

Graham Lynch had too much in the tank for Mick Donaghy’s rink winning 27-22.

With all to play for, Chris Maddigan pulled out some big bowls to get over Alan Crook 27-14, the Suns recording a 74(10) – 63(2) win.
