Demolition squad

MERBEIN Hawks have jumped the queue in Division One Saturday pennant bowls with a 58-shot drubbing of Red Cliffs.

Jeff Greenhill, Evan Rice, Jack Anderson and Jamie Knudsen were the Hawks shining lights with a 37-10 demolition of Michael Clifford’s rink.

Greenhill was ably supported by Laurie McLaine’s rink saluting with a 39-17 win over Trevor Clarke and David Maud winning 29-21 over Maurie Press, the Hawks winning 106(12) – 48(0).

At Cureton Avenue, the local derby between Workers and Mildura took a twist with Nevile Mitchell piloting his rink home to win 28-18 over Keith Sharman.

Peter Bishop continued his strong run of form accounting for Butch Pollock 21-15, but it was the “Master Blaster” Mark Eckel along with Bob Deacon, Gary Holmes and Jayden Taylor taking full toll of Fred Bacon, recording a 36-14 win to get the Magic home. Magic winning 69(8) – 63(4).

At Blackburn Park, the home side had a job in front of them hosting the reigning premiers and top of the table Irymple.

Janet Vallance’s rink of Rod Poole, Roy Latta and Ning Pitcher opened proceedings for the home side with a 27-20 win over Matt West.

Graham Lynch had too much in the tank for Mick Donaghy’s rink winning 27-22.

With all to play for, Chris Maddigan pulled out some big bowls to get over Alan Crook 27-14, the Suns recording a 74(10) – 63(2) win.

Second Division saw three highly competitive games going down to the wire.

Nangiloc collected a single digit win over Ouyen at Blackburn Park. Ben Mansell, Wade Duncan, Jayben McManus and Johnny English doing enough to collect the points with a 25-20 win over Terry Pitcher, Nangiloc winning 66(8) – 65(4).

Workers resurrected their season with a three-shot win over Mildura.

Dianne Smith’s rink of Brian Kennedy, Ian Lowe and Rob Grant were the big winners over Bill Hobbs 34-11, Workers winning 71(9) – 68(3).

Division Two ladder leaders Coomealla continued their fine form defeating Irymple 66(10) – 59(2).

Brandon Tyers (s), David Gust, Rob O’Brien and Peter Lambert headed the Cannons attack with a 27-16 win over Gus Storer’s quartet.

Division Three has experienced another forfeit with Workers forfeiting to Wentworth.

The points allocated for a forfeit are not correct on Bowlslink and the match committee are working to resolve the matter.

In other games, Merbein took to Mildura winning 81(10)-67(2), Ollie Dichiera piloting his rink of Bryce Midgley, Bryon Collins and Daniel Lee to a 37-21 win over Ian Livingston to set up the sides win.

Chris Barry countered for the magic with a 28-16 win over Sid Nash, but the divide was a bridge too far.

Irymple at home to Underbool relied upon Lorraine Millward skipping her rink of Peter Metcalf, John Vuik and Tracey Metcalf to record a 31-19 win over Alan Stone to get the major points, Irymple winning 73(8) – 67(4).

The Bandits, under the watchful eye of Phil Cattanach’s rink, recorded a 26-shot win over Red Cliffs. Cattanach defeated Steve Spry 41-14 as The Bandits 88(10) defeated Red Cliffs 62(2).

In Division Four, Euston lost to Irymple 37(0) – 56(8) with Jill Duncan’s rink doing the damage 30-15 over Jason Downie.

Mildura 5 defeated Underbool 53(8) – 40(0). Mildura’s rink skipped by Nola Mason the big winners 27-18, while junior Max Pegus featured in the side’s win.

Mildura 4 were towelled up by Red Cliffs 74(8) – 31(0). Graeme Butler, Helen Press, Kevin Gove and Andrew Garrow featuring as the best performed rink across all divisions with a 44-16 win over Garry Smallman’s quartet.

Coomealla continued their run with an impressive all rinks win over Euston. Cannons 63(8) – 25(0).

Ian Gibson, Ian Fraser, Rod Rowe and Brian Wakefield winning 35-8 over Jeff Lindsay.
