Ouyen silence the Cannons

OUYEN have resurrected their Sunraysia Midweek Pennant bowls season with a convincing 35-shot victory over Coomealla at Blackburn Park.

Skipper Sue Kelly, Ken Graham, Lorraine Hickmott and Ning Pitcher were the big winners for the Two Blues, recording a convincing 37-6 win over Pam Lambert’s rink.

Geoff Hahnel’s rink was too good for Peter Lambert, 29-21.

The Cannons’ top shooter for the day was Rob Nichols’ rink, which took the points over Janet Vallance, 22-18.

Ouyen collected 10 points, winning 84-39 and moving into the four.

Irymple fought out a tough one at Tigerland to win on all rinks 76(12) to 67(0).

Lorraine Millward took the points over Marg Dominelli 24-20. Graeme Phillips and Carolyn Coles had a battle royale, with the Irymple four saluting 24-21.

But it was Ian Kellett’s rink which added the icing to the cake with a 28-26 win over Michael Clifford’s four.

At Cureton Avenue, Workers hosted the Magic with top spot on the ladder up for grabs, both sides having been undefeated after two rounds.

Mildura young gun Isaiah Bettess had his rink of dad Corey, Val Munro and Rod Johnstone firing early as they took a 24-4 lead before the break. They went on to win 30-19 after a spirited fightback from Peter Bishop.

Ken Job’s unit flew the flag for the Green and Gold, holding a slender lead for most of the match before finally saluting 27-17 over Judy Osborne.

The Magic shone through when Mark Eckel’s rink of Shiley Pupillo, Ken Hayes and Glenys Yeowart powered away to win 34-7 over Dianne Smith. Mildura won 81(10) over Workers 53(2).

Division 2 had an array of interesting results. Irymple, Euston and Wentworth are all level on wins and recorded good wins in round 3.

Irymple defeated Red Cliffs 58-38, collecting all eight points. Euston defeated Workers 2 50-39, collecting six out of the possible eight points.

Wentworth fought out a tough contest against Mildura to win 47-45. Workers 3 unfortunately forfeited to Underbool.

Side forfeits in Division 2 deliver eight points and plus-10 shots to the side receiving the forfeit, and zero points and minus-10 shots against the forfeiting side.
