Tigers roll the Suns

RED Cliffs have put a stitch in the side of the Irymple Suns with a barnstorming win at the Tigers den in round 2 of Sunraysia Saturday Pennant bowls.

Michael Clifford’s rink of Ian Lowes, Geoff Peters and Glenn Jopling were convincing winners over Chris Madigan, playing his first game at skip in Division 1.

Madigan’s team of Terry Bourke, Darren Cordwell and Greg Brown, going down 15-34, had no answers for the Clifford rink.

Maurie Press chimed in with a 22-19 win over Matt West. Graham Lynch flew his team of Darren Cass, Anthony Kelly and Trev Flack under the radar to pick up two points for the Suns defeating Trev Clarke 25-19.

The Tigers roared to record a 75(10) to 59(2) win over the Suns.

Merbein fought out a tough one at Cureton Avenue over Workers.

During the week the Hawks were dealt news of the passing of club chair of selectors Scott Pollock. The Hawks flew in convoy for their clubmate.

Laurie McLaine, Shawn Fullerton, Mark Butcher and Rob Versteeg were solid all day and accounted for Fred Bacon 23-15.

Peter Bishop answered for the Green and Gold, tipping out Jeff Greenhill 26-21 to narrow the difference to three shots.

David Maud, always Mr Eddie Steady, ensured the Hawks victory with a 23-22 win over Roger Bray.

The Hawks flew home with a 67(10) to 63(2) victory to honour their late mate.

Mildura welcomed the Two Blues to the House of Magic. Ian ‘Butch’ Pollock lead the Magic with an inspired skipping performance that opened the window for the home side.

With a brilliant exhibition of draw bowling on a 17-second green, Pollock had the game in his hand steering his rink to a 37-10 win over Alan Crook.

Mark Eckel’s rink were in strife early, down 4-19, but resurrected themselves and went down in a solid second half shootout 25-30 against Mick Donaghy, Norm Latta, Ken Graham and Val Latta.

Keith Sharman, Lindsay Lynch, Russ Kneebone and John Simpson collected two points with a 31-22 win over Janet Vallance.

The Magic saluted the judge 93(10) to Ouyen 62(2).

In Division 2, ladder leaders Irymple were too good for Workers securing a 79(12) to 47(0) victory.

Phil Newton’s rink of Gaudern Gray, Chris Scott and Geoff Maddigan secured a 31-13 win over Col Gowers’ rink of Graeme Worthington, Don Crothers and Dom De Rosa to set up the Suns’ victory.

Coomealla fired a shot against Nangiloc when Mark Deakin pulled off a 29-14 win over legend Al Erskine to give the Cannons a break.

Toby Moore counteracted for the ’Loc with a 22-18 win over Adrian Barko. Ben Mansell stepped up to skip for the ’Loc to record a win 24-15 over Brandon Tyers.

The Cannons got home by two 68(8) to 60(4).

Mildura at home to Ouyen were solid winners 88(10) to 63(2).

Master mover for the Magic was the rink skipped by Reg Gardner, Judy Osborne, Rob Hanns and Fran Richards, who recorded a 38-21 win over Rod Poole’s rink.

Division 3 ladder leaders Euston defeated Merbein 85(12) to 59(-) , Underbool 62(2) lost to Workers 73(10), Red Cliffs 56(2) lost to Wentworth 74(10), and Mildura 75(10) defeated Irymple 64 (2).

In Division 4, Red Cliffs on a tough assignment against Euston were under the pump early.

Glenn Scott, Murray Mallee regional skip, played third to Jeff Lindsay for the Bandits to get home 28-17, and overall the Bandits collected the points 52(8) to 33(-).

Euston 3 side received a forfeit from Irymple 4 side.

Coomealla were far too good for Mildura 5 with a convincing 70 (8) to 28(0) victory.

Underbool at home with Scott Brammer in the skip’s box delivered a 32-13 win for his side with Jenn Wakefield at third; Robert Pole and Merl Pole all strong contributors. The ’Bool won 52(6) to 40(2).
