Surprise wins on the cards

SATURDAY’S round of bowls could see upsets aplenty in Division 1.

Merbein at home to Coomealla will be fired up after a tough win over ladder leaders Ouyen last weekend.

Laurie McLaine and Shawn Fullerton have their rinks firing and Jack Anderson – promoted to skip this year – has settled into the role.

Coomealla will be competitive with Mark Deacon and Rod Taylor in good form but the Hawks are on the up. Hawks to win at home.

The Rio Vista derby between Cureton Avenue co-tenants has Workers hosting Mildura in what will be a tough battle.

Workers sit comfortably inside the four but can’t afford any hiccups as Mildura are hunting for top spot. Match-ups will be crucial in the outcome. Magic to salute.

Ouyen and Irymple both have all to play for today. The Two Blues need a win to remain top of the table, the Suns likewise to stay in touch with the top three.

Should Irymple lose on all rinks today and Workers collect 12 points, the Suns will drop to fifth. It’s crunch time at the Cauldron.

Tanner Dickson-Arthur returns for the Suns and Tom Hogan has his unit firing nicely. The Suns by three shots.

Second Division ladder leaders Irymple jumped a game clear of the pack after their win last week and front up to Red Cliffs at Tigerland.

Red Cliffs will start favourites at home on the carpet but the firepower in the Suns unit should be enough to see them shine through at the end of the day.

Nangiloc host Merbein and will be keen to get back on the winners list after their narrow loss to Workers. Toby Moore, Rob Groves and Duncan Wade sit inside the top 10 on the Division 2 players ladder and should help to get their team over the line.

Mildura will host Workers in the curtain raiser to the main dance at Cureton Avenue. The Magic will be stinging after their loss to Irymple last week and will be keen to get back on the winning wagon. Workers likewise have a lot to play for – a win to keep them in touch with the four. Split the points.

Third Division still remains a fierce fight among the top three sides.

Top side Underbool travel north to the Suns’ territory to determine who should sit top of the ladder.

Underbool are a resilient unit who travel 90 minutes up the highway every second week to compete and that determination will see them collect the points and sit clear on top of the ladder.

Euston host Ouyen and will need to have their wagons aligned at the Carousel.

The Two Blues will rely on their unsung heroes, like Val Latta, who currently sits top of the Division Three player’s ladder with six wins, to continue to contribute to the team’s success. Ouyen to win.

Workers are at home to Mildura and the home side needs to win to create some breathing space between themselves and the Magic who sit in fifth spot, 13 points in arrears. Too close to call … heads … the home side to win.

Division 4 has created the most exciting run home to the finals, with only two wins separating the top from bottom.

Coomealla take on Red Cliffs under the Dome.

The Cannons have everything to play for and will be searching for a win to grab top spot. Cannons by a shot.

Mildura, sitting rock bottom, will be keen for a repeat of their round 4 performance.

Only seven points shy of the four, a win could propel them into finals contention. Euston have a blend of youth and experience and will be keen to square the ledger. Bandits by a head.

Wentworth host Irymple in a must-win game for the Steamers if they are to head up the table.

The Suns aren’t expected to set early and will push Wentworth right to the finish line. Steamers at home to salute.
