Magic topples Two Blues

MILDURA turned the tables on Ouyen, ending the Two Blues, undefeated run with a decisive 20-shot win.

The Magic’s chief wizard, Mark Eckel, had his rink of John Huxtable, Corey Bettess and Judy Osborne firing against Steve Simmonds’ rink, recording a 42-22 win. Bob Deacon lost narrowly to Alan Crook 18-22. Chris Mitchell’s rink ended Janet Vallance’s winning streak with a 22-18 win. The Magic won 82-62 (10-2).

Irymple rolled over Coomealla on all rinks. Tom Hogan’s rink of Darren Cass, Anthony Kelly and Trevor Flack collecting a 23-16 win over Brian Tyers. Matt West up by two over Rod Taylor and Tanner Dickson-Arthur home by a shot over Brandon Tyers. Irymple 64 defeated Coomealla 54 (12-0).

Workers took no prisoners in their match-up with Merbein, recording their best win for the season with a 39-shot, all rinks win. Ken Job (S) with Ron Archer, John Kennedy and Mick Legin the best performed for the Green and Gold with a 32-14 win over Laurie McLaine. Workers 94 (12) defeated Merbein 55(0).

Division 2

Competition in Division Two is heating up with the top three sides all recording wins to stay within a handful of points of each other. Irymple taking top spot on the ladder with a 27-shot win over Workers. Ian McLean (S) Gaudern Gray, Brendan O’Brien and George Millward the standout rink with a 39-15 win over Trish Walters. Irymple 87 (10) defeated Workers 60 (2).

Nangiloc were too good for Red Cliffs. Ben Mansell skipped his rink of Kevin Cox, David Goldup and Matthew Andrews to a 33-18 win over Maurie Press to lead the way for the home side. Nangiloc 83 (10) defeated Red Cliffs 68 (2).

Merbein at home to Mildura went down to the visitors with the Magic’s Bill Hobbs (S), Peter Ellis, Glenys Yeowart and Julia Leeming collecting a 34-12 win over Rob Versteeg’s rink. Mildura 85 (12) defeated Merbein 45 (0).

Division 3

In Third Division, Underbool and Irymple have jumped a game clear of the competition after solid wins. Underbool defeated Mildura by 20 shots to stay top of the table. Underbool 79 (11) defeated Mildura 59 (1).

Irymple got over Ouyen at Blackburn Park, winning 78 (11) to 64 (1) and sit in second spot, four points behind the top side Underbool. Ian Kellett (S), Rob Harrigan, Michael Cass and Tracey Metcalfe the best for the Sun’s recording a 33-20 over Joan Pohlner’s quartet.

Workers stepped into the four with a strong all rinks win over Euston, winning 96(12) to 62(0). Worker’s Dave Robertson (S), David Sammut, Graeme Worthington and Don Caruthers showing the way with a 34-18 win over Peter Tyrrell.

Division 3

Euston collected all the points against Irymple in their Division Four match-up, the Bandits winning 72 (12) to 56 (0). Coomealla Cannons fired a shot mid-ships into the Wenty Steamers, collecting a win 76 (10) to 62 (2). Red Cliffs won a close encounter against the emerging Mildura Magic 67 (10) to 65 (2).

Division One ladder: Ouyen 63, Irymple 56, Mildura 50, Workers 36, Coomealla 28, Merbein 19.

Division Two ladder: Irymple 59, Nangiloc 58, Mildura 55, Red Cliffs 44, Workers 24, Merbein 12.

Division Three ladder: Underbool 59, Irymple 55, Ouyen 45, Workers 42, Mildura 31, Euston 20.

Division Four ladder: Wentworth 58, Coomealla 55, Irymple 38, Euston 38, Red Cliffs 35, Mildura 28.
