Ladder leaders clash

By Chris Mitchell

A TOP-of-the-table clash between Ouyen and Irymple at Blackburn Park headlines round 4 of Bowls Sunraysia pennant.

The Suns have survived two close calls in recent weeks and will need to have their A-game dialled in from the get-go.

Tom Hogan’s rink have been the go-to rink for the Suns, and a match-up with Janet Vallance’s rink would see two undefeated rinks go head-to-head.

The Two Blues are in sync and will start favourites at home.

Coomealla host Merbein at the Fortress with the visitors keen to open their account.

Jack Anderson has his Hawk rink up and about and will be looking to claim another scalp. Mark Deakin’s rink will be on the hunt after the Cannons’ loss last week to Workers.

If the Cannons can regroup, they should start favourites.

The derby at Cureton Avenue between Mildura and Workers has bragging rights attached.

Roger Bray and Keith Sharman are both undefeated after three games. Bray plays aggressively and hunts for numbers, while Sharman plays a little more conservatively, but given the opportunity, is quick to convert.

Workers will be hunting to keep the Magic inside the genies’ bottle. The Magic are overdue for a win.

Second division ladder leaders Nangiloc travel to Kenny Park to take on Merbein.

The Hawks have not enjoyed the best of starts to the season, and Toby Moore has his rink running on gas with three wins from three, so Nangiloc to win.

Workers host Mildura with both sides looking for a win.

The Magic to shore up a shot at top billing in the four and Workers in an attempt to stay in touch with the four. The Magic will be keen to account for last week and should win.

Irymple host Red Cliffs at the Cauldron and will win.

Murray Fazulla, Brendan O’Brien and Trevor Flack, all top-flight players, bring an abundance of experience and capacity to last year’s runners up side.

Irymple travel to Underbool for the top of the table clash in Division 3. Both sides are locked on 24 points, along with Workers.

Underbool will start solid favourites at home and will be stinging after their loss last week.

Col Lockett for the Bool and the Suns’ Peter Lambert are undefeated rinks. Both will be looking to continue that run.

Ouyen host the Bandits at Blackburn Park and will need to have their wits about them after Euston’s performance last week.

A win for the Ouyen unit could see them jump to top spot on the ladder, a loss could see them drop outside the four.

Mildura will play host to Workers as the home side looks to get their season on track after three losses on the trot.

Workers are in third spot and will be keen to increase the space between third spot and fifth. Workers to salute.

Top of the table Irymple host Wentworth at the Cauldron in Division Four. The Suns haven’t dropped a game this season and it’s hard to see them dropping this one.

Val Nichols rink is undefeated for the season for the Suns and will be keen to keep her rink’s record intact.

Euston host Mildura and this should prove to be an interesting affair.

The Magic lost out last week to Irymple and will be keen to turn things around.

The Bandits at the Carousel might have a little bit to say about that and will be keen to add to the score sheet. Bandits quick on the draw to win.

Red Cliffs and Coomealla face off at The Den. The Tigers lost out to Wentworth last week but might spring a surprise at home. Tigers to win.
