Suns in a cliffhanger

THE Irymple Suns survived the Mildura Magic’s run home to record a one shot win in a nailbiter in round three of Bowls Sunraysia pennant.

The Magic trailed by 12 at the break. Mark Eckel fired his rink of John Huxtable, Corey Bettess and Judy Osborne to record a win over Tanner Dickson-Arthur, 27-20.

Keith Sharman kept his four on task to collect the points against Col Sherriff, with Sharman producing a couple of big saves in the latter end of the match. Sharman winning 25-22.

In the middle rink Tom Hogan had his “heroes” on song and once again proved the difference recording a 26-15 win over Chris Mitchell.

Irymple winning 68 (8) – Mildura 67 (4).

Next door Workers took a no-nonsense approach to their match against the big improvers Coomealla.

Butch Pollock fired his rink of Ron Archer, Peter Bishop and Fred Bacon to a 40-8 win over Mark Deakin. This was to prove a bridge too far.

Rod Taylor countered with a 27-14 win over Ken Job, but Roger Bray stamped the final result with a 27-16 win over Brandon Tyers. Bray collected a count of seven late in the game to close out the contest.

Workers won 81 (10) – Cooomealla 51 (2).

The Ouyen Two Blues fired against Merbein at Kenny Park with Janet Vallance’s rink again providing the drive to get the points. Vallance with Norm Latta, Mick Donaghy and Judy Pengelly winning 24-16 over Graham Newey.

Merbein’s Jack Anderson collected another scalp with a win over Harry Munro 24-21. Shawn Fullerton and Alan Crook shared the points 22 apiece. Ouyen won 67 (9) – Merbein 62 (3).

Division One ladder: Irymple 30, Ouyen 29, Workers 22, Coomealla 14, Mildura 8, Merbein 5.

Division Two

In Division Two, Nangiloc took control of their game against Workers with an all rinks win 92 – 49.

Ben Mansell, Matt Andrew, David Goldup and Darren Kerslake set the show on the road with a 45-14 win over Wayne Long.

Irymple with a strong performance sent reigning premiers Mildura back to Cureton Avenue with their tails between their legs.

Murray Fazulla returned to competition play in full flight, skipping his rink of Trevor Flack, Brendan O’Brien and George Millward to a 40-15 win over Robert Hanns. The Suns shining 97 (11) – Mildura 49 (1).

Red Cliffs worked hard all day against a determined Merbein side. The Tigers’ Michael Clifford, Ian Lowes, Greg Johnson and Don Reed winning 28-18 over Ron Bell. This was enough to get the job done. Red Cliffs 67 (8) – Merbein 61 (4).

Division Two ladder: Nangiloc 24, Irymple 23, Mildura 23 Red Cliffs 20,Workers 12, Merbein 6.

Division Three

Division Three saw the competition really heat up.

Mildura was at home to Irymple and had some but not all the answers.

The Suns’ Peter Lambert had Rob Harrigan, Tracie Storer and Tracey Metcalf on auto pilot as they cruised to a 43-17 win over Ian Livingston to set up a solid Suns’ win. Irymple 92 (10) – Mildura 72 (2).

Workers recorded a 15-shot win over Ouyen 80 (10) – 65 (2). Jim Jeffery, Bernadette Stone, Mike Gilpin and Nick Cetinich got the show on the road with a 34-19 win over Don Pohlner.

Euston Bandits held up Underbool and relieved them of 10 points to begin their climb up the ladder. Bandits skip Doug Brown with Kevin Mumford, Gary Hearn and Dion Morgan collected a 28-12 win over Rob Gloster. The Bandits winning 72 (10) – 55 (2).

Division Three ladder: Irymple 24, Underbool 24, Workers 24, Ouyen 20, Euston 10, Mildura 6.

Division 4

The only result confirmed in Division Four was Irymple 75 (10) defeating Mildura 58 (2). The shiners for the Suns were Pam Lambert (S), Rod Ellis, Jill Duncan and Max Cartwright with 29-11 win over Denis Clarke.

Scores from the remaining games had not been entered on Bowlslink at time of writing.
