Two Blues on the move

OUYEN took apart last year’s premiers, Mildura, at Blackburn Park in a solid performance in round two of Pennant Bowls.

Alan Crook accounted for Ken Yeowart 26-20. Janet Vallance piloted Norm Latta, Ken Graham and Judy Pengelly to a 22-18 win over Chris Mitchell.

The Magic’s Keith Sharman extracted two points for the visitors with a 25-19 win over Steve Simmonds.

Sharman’s rink of Bob Deacon, Peter Ellis and Chris Richards collected an elusive eight shots on the fifth end of the match. Ouyen were victorious 67 (10) – Mildura 63 (2).

Workers took the points against Merbein at Kenny Park.

Merbein’s Jack Anderson claimed his first big scalp skipping when he bagged Ian “Butch” Pollock 23-21. Next door, Graham Newey kept the scoring to a minimum.

Roger Bray getting over Newey 18-13 gave Workers the edge by three shots.

But cometh the hour, cometh the Skip, and Ken Job had his rink of Ken Hayes, Neville Mitchell and Mick Legin on auto pilot as they recorded a 28-16 win over Shawn Fullerton, Workers winning 67(10) – Merbein 52(2).

At Henshilwood Reserve, the Suns dodged a rather large broadside from the Coomealla Cannons.

Trailing at the break by 12 shots, the Suns – under the aggressive play of Tanner Dickson-Arthur – turned the match around. His rink went on to record a 22-21 win over Mark Deakin.

Coomealla’s Brandon Tyers had all wheels turning as his rink ran out comfortable 28-19 winners over Colin Sherriff.

With the match in the balance, the Suns emerged from the shade as Hogan’s heroes saluted with a 27-17 win over Rod Taylor.

The new look rink of Tom Hogan (S), Darren Cass, Rob Hogan and Chris Madigan got the job done for the Suns.

The final score was Suns 68(10) – Cannon’s 66(2).

Division One ladder: Irymple 22, Ouyen 20, Coomealla 12, Workers 12, Mildura 4, Merbein 2.

Workers’ number two side comfortably accounted for Irymple 76(10) – 55(2). Wayne Long’s rink of Ron Boyd, Brian Horton and Brian Kennedy did the damage against Phil Newton 33-13.

Nangiloc 66(10) defeated Red Cliffs 58(2) in a tough encounter. Toby Moore’s rink of Wade Duncan, Kelvin Cox and Shane Moore winning 25-18 over Fred Guigno proved the difference.

Mildura hosted Merbein and recorded a solid all-rinks win 88(12) to Merbein 51(0). Jon Underwood’s rink of Garry Holmes, Glenys Yeowart and Graeme Young led the way 32-18 over Scott Pollock.

Division Two ladder: Mildura 22, Red Cliffs 12, Workers 12, Nangiloc 12, Irymple 12, Merbein 2.

Underbool took all before them at home against Mildura in Division 3 with a thumping 85(12) – 39(0) win. Howard Crothers’ rink of John Stone, Frankie Gloster and Scott Brammer were too good for Mildura’s Golden Girls, skipped by Joan Bunney, recording a 34-6 win.

Workers travelled to Bandit country and collected full points 99(12) – 58(0). Keith Russell’s rink of Geoff Castleman, Tony Pupillo and Mick Gilpin getting the chocolates with a 40-19 win over Doug Brown.

Ouyen took on the Suns at the Cauldron and came away with the points after a tough encounter. Ouyen 64(10) – Irymple 56(2). Terry Pitcher, Reg Dean, Kevin Manley and Val Latta were the best for the Two Blues, winning 30-16 over Gaudern Gray.

Division 3 ladder: Underbool 22, Ouyen 18, Irymple 14, Workers 14, Mildura 4, Euston 0.

Irymple’s number 4 side have jumped a game clear after round 2 with a 76(10) – Euston 65(2) win at Euston. Wentworth snagged a one-shot victory over the Cannons, winning 69(8) – 68(4).

Red Cliffs took the points against the Mildura Magic 80(10) – 66(2).
