Who is eligible

Questions Concerning the Beauty Contest

Entries for the Mildura Grand Carnival beauty contest are beginning to materialise, and in every district of Sunraysia there is keen inquiry and the cancassing of the chances of the district’s fair.

A question concerning eligibility has been asked: Is any lady in Sunraysia eligible?

The answer is: Yes, if she is a bona fide resident.

She must not be a mere visitor; but she need not have been in the district any length of time.

The prime qualification is beauty of face, and, almost if not quite as important, the disposition that makes a girl or a woman a general favorite.

Another question asked concerns the age of the contestants.

The answer is that they must be more than children.

They must be women physically.

At the other end of the age scale, an aged lady, no matter how beautiful with the glory of the evening life, could scarcely be called a beauty in the common acceptation of the term.

On the other hand, a matron in the full time of her womanhood may be as beautiful as a young girl – the rose as lovely as the bud.

Sunraysia has some noted beauties nearer forty than fourteen, and moreover in the popularity contest they would be found to have many friends.
