A FIRST-up win is always a welcome bonus for a new season, according to Mildura Heat women's coach James Madigan.

The Division 1 women's side got their Big V Basketball season going on the right foot two weeks ago with a 70-58 win over Collingwood at home.

After a bye last round, the Heat face a double header road trip with matches against Camberwell Dragons and Whittlesea Pacers.
