Sunday scorefest in S-League

MASSIVE scores were all the rage in the penultimate round of the S-League home-and-away season, with an average winning margin across all senior matches of nine goals.

The biggest came from the boots of Nichols Point, who secured easily their biggest win of the campaign, 15-1, over Three Colours.

Charles Engrand led the charge with four goals for the boys in orange, while talented youngster Brooklyn Hudak added a hat-trick.

It was a record-breaking weekend for Hudak who scored a combined 18 goals across grades on Sunday, taking his tally to 38 for the year which is the best goalscoring season in club history.

Newton Likaveke and Eliel Vassallo Del Giorgio each added a brace while Connor O’Callaghan, Samson Namatak and Dean Austin also found the back of the net.

The Pointers couldn’t complete the clean sheet, however, as Samet Oktay scored his fifth goal of the campaign for Colours.

Meanwhile, champions-in-waiting Mildura City continued their undefeated campaign with a 6-1 victory over Mildura United in a match that produced multiple yellow cards.

Young gun Campbell Brown and established attacker Brandon Pollifrone each scored twice in the win, with Meric Kiran and Nicholas Lia also finding the back of the net.

City’s defence, however, was breached for just the third time during the home-and-away season as United’s Bireke Kumbuka scored in the second half to record his side’s first goal against the ladder leaders for the year.

In senior women’s action, Isabella Palamara came away with a handful of goals as champions-elect Mildura City won their contest against Nichols Point 8-0.

The young striker was dominant with five goals, supported by Lillee Driscoll, Macalia Britton and Lilly Pulham who all got on the scoresheet.

The final round of the home-and-away season takes place this weekend with title winners to be confirmed across all grades.

The following week marks the beginning of the finals series with the grand final trophy on the line at the conclusion.
