THE planned meeting set for the Mildura Racing Club next Monday, August 26, has been relocated to Horsham.
The eight-race card with a combined prize purse of more than $215,000 was moved by Racing Victoria based on the condition of part of the track.
“Mildura was inspected on Tuesday, August 20, with the decision made that the track would benefit from a short break after recent racing,” a statement from RV said.
While he said he was “disappointed” the planned meeting had been moved 300 kilometres south, Mildura Racing Club manager Jamie Lanyon also said he hoped the change of venue would give the track and staff time to prepare for race days later in the year.
“While we are disappointed with the decision, it was decided that some short-term remedial work on the track was in the best intertest for all parties, to ensure we can keep racing over the rest of the spring,” Mr Lanyon said.
“The track will be inspected again next week to confirm if our September 7 meeting will go ahead.
“The main objective is to make sure that our feature event on Melbourne Cup Day goes ahead without any risks.
“Following Melbourne Cup Day, the track will be getting a full renovation so it can receive a full summer of growing before we resume racing on May 25 2025.”
Packages and tickets for Mildura Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Day meet are on sale now, while the next scheduled local race day is planned for Saturday, September 7.
