TO Balranald Shire Mayor Louie Zaffina.
It is good that the township of Euston has such a strong community representative and a bowling club with an asset value of approximately $38 million and an annual profit of about $4 million.
It begs the question, of what we as a western society, truly value?
Is it really health care for the elderly?
When a short distance across the river, our ancestors, in the second half of the last century raised money. And for every dollar collected, the Australian Government matched a dollar. From this effort was built a community hospital.
Many others, including myself were born in the Robinvale hospital.
Fast forward to this day. What has happened? We have few doctors and nurses in our community, but hundreds of poker machines.
What would our ancestors think?
