Shaken Bambill eager to steady ship

AFTER stumbling in their first finals match, Bambill are hoping to calm their nerves against Nangiloc on Saturday and secure their spot in the grand final.

The minor premiers had a tough game in last weekend’s semi-final against Werrimull, with coach Lateesha Hester using this week to settle her team and “get back to the way we play netball”.

“From the start we just didn’t play how we usually play,” she said.

“We’re feeling all right about it though, we’re just trying to shake it off and we’ll go back to what we know.

“We’re feeling good … we’re feeling positive.”

It was a different story last weekend for the Demons, who had a convincing win over Cardross to give them confidence in their game plan and their ability to work together as a team.

“Obviously it is two totally different teams, so it’s two totally different styles of game,” Nangiloc coach Annette Emonson said.

“But we are playing well as a team, we have got a good team feel going, so we will bring that to this week and see what happens.”

Emonson said playing as the underdogs meant there wasn’t as much pressure on her team.

“I think there was people who didn’t expect us to win last week,” she said.

“Obviously Bambill finished top of the ladder, they beat us twice, we’ve only won once against them, so we go in as the underdogs.

“I don’t think we’ve got any pressure on us, I think the pressure is on them.”

Hester acknowledged there was a bit of pressure on the Demons to perform but backed her side to maintain their composure.

“The girls are pretty good at handling the nerves and staying composed,” she said.

“We’re just going in with the mindset of it’s another game that we’ve got to win, and we’ve just got to get the job done.”

The winner of Saturday’s match will take on Werrimull for the premiership next weekend in the grand final.
