Eagles’ win worsens Ouyen Utd’s year

ROBINVALE Euston claimed a hard-fought five-goal win over Ouyen United in a fast-paced, high-pressure clash at Blackburn Park, finishing 50–45.

The contest opened with intensity as both sides traded goals early, with Ouyen holding a slender one-goal lead at quarter time, 10–9.

Ouyen’s attacking duo Catherine Brown and Meghan Jardie set the tone, while defenders Kate Lockett and Mel Dyda stood tall under pressure to help maintain the edge.

Brown continued her dominance in the second quarter, netting 29 goals by half-time and pushing the Kangas to a 23–21 lead.

Despite a tough match-up between Dyda and Eagles goal shooter Sarah Hepburn, the visitors adjusted their game plan effectively.

Momentum swung in the third term, with Robinvale Euston’s defensive trio – Jorja Delcastenge, Georgie Kelly, and Gabby Marrone – producing timely tips and rebounds to turn the tide.

Hepburn, unfazed under pressure, combined well with Georgia Giofrelle to edge the Eagles in front 29–28 at the final change.

In the last quarter, both sides lifted in intensity, but it was the Eagles who found composure when it mattered.

Kelly was instrumental through the midcourt, guiding her side forward with control and poise. Robinvale’s defensive pressure remained relentless, stifling Ouyen’s attacking options in the dying minutes.

Despite a late surge from the Kangas, Robinvale Euston held firm to close out the match. Hepburn finished with 31 goals, supported by Giofrelle’s 24, while Ouyen’s best came from the consistent efforts of Lockett and Dyda in defence.

The Eagles walked away with a deserved victory, toppling the reigning premiers in a thrilling four-quarter contest.
