RIVERSIDE

THE final round of both the ladies and the men’s club championships were played last week. 

Congratulations to Steph Baker who played three superb rounds of golf to take the honour as the 2024 ladies club champion, 50 shots ahead of her nearest rival. 

The men’s contest was a lot closer, with Brendan Rowse and Ash Whitehouse finishing on the same score after the third round, but Brendan played the better in the last round to win the men’s championship on a countback. 

On Monday, August 19, Roberto Fuoco won the medley Stableford after a countback with Domenic Vartuli, both on 36 points. 

Marie Hudak picked up the win on Tuesday, August 20, in the ladies nine-hole competition with 16 points. 

Balls: 15 points on a countback. 

Last Wednesday was a stroke event and the men’s Monthly Award in two grades, with a countback needed to determine the winners. 

Dale Meredith (87/73) grabbed the A Grade win over Michael Golitschenko (85/73) while Louis Sarrou (104/68) used his luck to take out B Grade over runnerup Dominic Ghidinelli (92/68). 

Balls: 75 net on a countback.

Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford winner was Jordan Appleby with 25 points in front of runner-up John Marlais 22 points. 

The ladies played Stableford on Saturday and Tracey Bryan put together a winning round of 36 points from runner-up Roz Nash on 34 points.

Brendan Rowse went all the way in the fourth round of the men’s championship finishing with an amazing 73 off the stick (in shocking weather conditions) to be presented with the club championship cup.

The daily comp for the men on Saturday and Sunday was played in three grades. 

On Saturday Glenn Walker completed a great round of (81/70) to win A Grade over Steve Wilmann (72/72) in second place after a countback against Ian Dickason and Michael Holcroft. 

Tuarae Kirirua had a super day to win B Grade when he shot (83/65) in front of SV Turaki (85/72) who grabbed runner-up over David Lloyd on a countback. 

Peter Gourlay would have thought he had C Grade all sewn up after his excellent (95/67) but he was pushed in to second place after Neville Cooke burned up the course to take out the win and round of the week, with an outstanding (97/64). 

Balls: 75 net on a countback.

In spite of the rain and gale force winds on Sunday some great scores were had. 

Rakii Woetai had a convincing win in A Grade with (74/69) in front of runnerup Daniel Tung (80/74) after a countback with Brendan Rowse. 

Max Marks took out B Grade with a score of (80/66) over Tuarae Kirirua with (85/68). 

Ian Davis was the C Grade winner with (99/70) with runner-up going to Ricky Hayes with (94/72). 

Balls: 75 net.

MILDURA 

ON Tuesday, August 20, the third and final round of the women’s club championships was played with Ann Bowen on 89-90-86=265 taking the scratch win from runner-up Mabel Crouch with 94-95-95=284. 

Division 2 scratch winner was Lorrie Bishop with 104-113-106=323 from runner-up Tracy Katis 109-109- 117=335. 

The 18-hole daily stroke event was won by Ann Bowen with 73 net from Bev Stone on 74 net. 

Balls: (3) 73 to 75 net. 

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Carla Sherriff 1050cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Ann Bowen 113cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Mabel Crouch 1025cm. 

The nine-hole Stableford was won by Janet Fumberger with 19 points from runner-up Kathy Cameron on 18 points.

Last Wednesday’s A Grade Stableford event was won Nicholas Rodi with 38 points from runner-up Robert Pallot on a countback a countback from Jamie Lanyon, both on 35 points. 

B Grade winner was Fred Stewart with 40 points from runner-up Boof Ferguson on a countback from Doug Matthews, both on 38 points. 

C Grade winner was Donald Wall with 38 points from runner-up Russell Reid 37 points with George Moraitis third with 36 points. 

Balls: (25) 40 to 34 points on a countback.

On Friday Gayle Ford survived a three-way countback on 34 points ahead of Tracy Katis and Sandra Hutchinson.

It was the first round of the club championship on Saturday and stroke Monthly Medal. 

Joseph Rocca won A Grade on a countback with Ron Casey, both on 69, with Robert Pallot finishing off the podium with a net 70. 

The B Grade winner was Craig Wright with the best score of the day, net 66, from runner-up Phillip Nash on 69 from third placed Les Williams on net 70. 

Will Anderson saluted with net 68, a clear winner from runner-up Shaun Juakes on 71 with Peter Palazzo third with net 72. 

Balls: (27) 66 to 75 on a countback.

Greg Rhodes is leading the championship with gross 74 from Mark Woodhouse, Joseph Rocca and Cameron Stewart, all on 75, with Robert Pallot one shot further back on 76. 

B Grade leader is Craig Wright with gross 82 from Gary Fumberger on 85 from Josef Moisidis and Phillip Nash on 86. 

Will Anderson leads C Grade with gross 95 from Steve Phair on 96 with Stephen Reberger, Gavin Harrington and Peter Briggs, all on 98. 

The veterans and friends 18-hole medley Stableford played on Monday was won by Robert Latta with 38 points from Keith Williams on a countback from John Williams, both on 34 points. 


MERBEIN 

LAST Wednesday’s single Stableford winner was D. Watson with 40 points from runner-up M. Trinick on 37 points.

Saturday was the final Monthly Medal for the year which was won by Graeme Kerr 93/70 from runner-up Dylan Burnett 87/73.

LAST Wednesday the men played Stableford and Graham Bailey had 38 points to win on a countback from Glen Riordan.

The ladies played a three-ball classic Stableford on Wednesday where Caroline James, Denise Morgan and Jan Boyce combined well to score 85 points, just one point in front of runners-up Dee

Hopkins, Sandy Wright and Liz Leach with 84 points. 

On Saturday a medley multiplication Stableford was played. 

Nomai Pakere and Junior Puia had 83 points to win from runners-up on 79 points, Ray Pain and Chris Barko.

VETERANS 

THE next district event is a single Stableford event on Monday at the Robinvale Golf Club. 

Registration commences at 8.30am with a shotgun start at 9.30am. 

The Victorian Veterans Golf Association Teams Championship will be held at the Bendigo Golf Club on September 16 and 17. 

Currently two local teams have entered and there is still a position open for a third local team to register.

The VVGA State Championships will be held at the Corowa Golf Club on October 7 and 8.

WENTWORTH 

ON Thursday a stroke round was played in perfect weather conditons. 

Visiting player Dennis McLaughlan was looking threatening on the front nine due to his long drives and consistent fairway shots but his snap hook drives on the back nine bought him undone. 

It was a tight tussle to decide the winner and Glen Walker came out on top to win the money on a countback from runner-up Howard Hankinson (a cold can for second), both on net 72. 

A ball went to Bill Slee on net 75 and Wayne Astbury took out the Mr Risky trophy. 

NTP: 2nd – Howard Hankinson 425cm. 

Sunday’s event was called off due to the incliment weather. 

Stableford events are held on Sundays and stroke events on Thursdays. 

Registration is at 9.30am for a 10am tee-off and visitors are most welcome. 

Sunday, October 20, is the Flood Recovery Ambrose Day open to members and visitors.
