Refreshed Roos ready to take next step

A TICKET into the grand final is what is on offer for the winner of today’s semi-final against Wentworth and Mildura.

Taking out this season’s minor premiership, the Roos go into the match as the team to beat.

The Roos haven’t just won every game for the season, but they’ve done so extremely convincingly, with the Demons coming the closest when beaten by 14 goals in round 6.

Roos coach Amanda Edwards said she was well aware of the expectations of her team, but felt they could meet and exceed them.

“We know that we’ve got a huge target on our back, and obviously every team is going to be hunting for that,” she said.

“It’s been like that for a little while, so we know what to expect.

“Mildura are definitely going to come out hungry and put us to the test.

“We know what is to come, but I think mentally we’re prepared and we back ourselves 100 percent coming into this game.”

Finishing on top of the ladder, Wentworth earned themselves a week off last weekend, which Edwards said hasn’t slowed down her side at all.

“I think it’s been nice to refresh,” she said.

“It gave us just a little bit of extra time to reflect on the season, which is nice to see what we’ve done so far, but also now switching into finals mode.

“The girls have had a great couple of weeks of training, put out some really hard sessions, and are definitely eager to go.”

The Demons should also be full of confidence after a solid win against Irymple in last week’s qualifying final match.

The loser of today’s match will go up against the winner of tomorrow’s game between Ouyen United and Irymple in next weekend’s preliminary final, while the winner will automatically book a spot in the grand final in two weeks’ time.
