Ski success for Thomson

SOPHIE Thomson’s brilliant finish to the most recent waterski season has earned her another award.

Alongside winning a pair of South Australian titles, Thomson has now also added a Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year nomination for her efforts in June.

Competing in the Under 30 Women’s and 19-24 Women’s classes at the Murray Bridge event, Thomson achieved first place in both categories while skiing behind the boat Hell Yeah, piloted by her father, Geoff Thomson, with Jamie Moore as the observer.

In a closely contested three-lap event, Thomson posted a time of 12:13:45 in the Under 30 Women’s class, edging out her nearest competitors by just a few seconds.

She also secured the top spot in the 19-24 Women’s class with a time of 12:13:01. Despite the event being cut short due to an unrelated incident, Thomson’s performances stood out in a strong field.

Thomson looks forward to next season, with plans to compete in major river races like the Mildura 100 and Murray Darling 110, aiming to build on her successes.

Her competitive spirit and enthusiasm for the sport continue to drive her towards new goals and achievements.

As the June winner, Thomson received an Intersport voucher and is now eligible for the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year Awards.

Mallee Sports Assembly is now calling for August nominations for the awards.

Nomination forms are available from 101-101a Ninth Street, Mildura, or www.malleesportsassembly.org.au.
