Netballers spring into tournament

HUNDREDS of talented netballers from across three states will come together in Mildura this weekend for the annual Mildura Netball Association Spring Carnival.

About 500 players from 50 teams will participate in the carnival at Mildura Sporting Precinct on Saturday and Sunday.

Mildura Netball Association president Alex West said she was excited to see another year of the high-level tournament.

“It is great to see that the spring carnival is still alive and we still have lots of people visiting the area for it, especially after a very busy local football netball season,” she said.

“It’s considered as one of the top half a dozen tournaments that are played in Victoria.

“It is one of the largest regional netball tournaments on the schedule.”

The divisions of the competition include seniors,17 and under, 15 and under, and 13 and under.

Among them will be six local sides representing the region, including a Millewa team, a Meringur side, as a few Sunraysia Football Netball League squads.

“The beautiful thing about the spring carnival is not only does it bring heaps of netballers to the community, it gives our local teams an opportunity to see what the level is outside of the Sunraysia community,” she said.

“It also brings thousands of dollars into the Mildura community through accommodation, tourism, restaurants, local goods and services.”

This is the first year the carnival will be live-scoring the games, with in-time results uploaded to Netball Connect throughout the competition.
