THERE will be more than a fair degree of familiarity when Millewa take on the Mallee Tigers in the Dreamtime clash at the Mildura Sporting Precinct courts.
“About half the Tigers play in our league so there’s not too much we don’t know about them,” coach Brooke Watson said on Thursday.
“The Cardross co-captain, Bronte Burgess, is playing for them. Mel Kennedy is also from Cardross and in the squad and then there’s Lois Taylor, who plays for Gol Gol, and footballer Sienna Charles (Werrimull), who is also a very handy netballer.” Watson said.
“They should have quite a strong team.”
The eight-strong A-team Sunraysia squad has plenty of talent of its own.
The defence will be anchored by Madelyn McPhee (Meringur), Emily Phillips (Gol Gol) and Maddison Maher (Werrimull) while midcourters Tayla Davison-Armao (Bambill), star centre Erin Sell (Werrimull) and Kaylie Monaghan (Bambill) should provide a constant supply of the ball to Nangiloc forwards Amber King and Chloe Nelson.
Winning is not the be all and end all in such meetings, but it doesn’t hurt.
“It’s very important to win,” Watson said. “We have won the previous two and to keep the momentum going would be good.
“But it’s also a good opportunity to play representative netball and those opportunities don’t come around all that often.
“It’s a good chance to play with other people and get different ideas about how to move the ball down the court.”
The 3pm contest will be preceded by the senior Bs at 2pm and under 15s at 12.30pm.
