Contest a fitting end to the book of Johns

THERE is room for sentimentality in football after all.

South Mildura coach Patrick ­Irwin said his club would acknow­ledge retiring Merbein coach and Bulldogs great Peter Johns in some form today at Sarah Oval – where Johns made his name as a player and coach over 14 seasons and 215 games.

“It’s funny how the stars align and I’m sure he’ll be really keen to finish off the right way and we’ll certainly be respectful and acknowledge the great contribution he’s made to the Sunraysia Football League,” Irwin said.

“The Johns family is very strong at Sarah Oval.
