Winners eager to put more runs on board

WINNERS from the opening round of SCA Premier Women’s cricket will look to further establish themselves in the top four as round 2 kicks off on Friday night.

Runs flowed in the first games of the season and batters will hope to keep cashing in.

Mildura Settlers are top of the table after a big win over a young Irymple side and will face Gol Gol at Mildura Senior College.

Setts were impressive across the top order as Shania McKinnon, Sarah Telfer (both 42) and Ella Dingwall (40) all retired not out, while captain McKinnon also claimed 2/12.

For Gol Gol, sisters Abby and Megan Collihole both retired not out at 41 and 40 respectively against Merbein.

Reigning premiers Mildura West also got off to the ideal start with a strong win over Mildura East, and they will look to continue that run against Nichols Point Gold at Nichols Point Reserve.

West’s Demi Zanoni retired not out 40 and took a brilliant 2/0 and captain-coach Breanna Smith finished not out on 38.

Addison Bell was economical with 1/4 from three overs.

Point Gold will play their opening match of the season after a round 1 bye.

Coomealla Wentworth again loom as premiership threats this season and a 40-run win over Nichols Point Greens leads into a match-up with Irymple at George Gordon Oval.

Blues skipper Katelin Kemp picked up right where she left off from last year’s MVP winning season, making 43 retired, while Tauta Rangiuira impressed with a retired 41 from just 34 deliveries and took 2/10.

Adrienne Fielding was also good with the ball taking 2/6.

Solid knocks from Joe Wood and Isabella Mensch were impressive against a tough Mildura Settlers outfit last week.

Either Mildura East or Nichols Point Green will open their account for the season when they face each other at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

Caitlin Finch took 2/16 for East against West last week and while they presented a strong bowling unit last week, with Finch, Sonia Drew and Gemma Higgins, they have run scorers.

Point Green’s Gypsy Gange had arguably the best individual performance of the first round, taking a hat-trick and four wickets in five deliveries in the third over of the match to finish with 4/5.

Emerging talent Levaka-Hope Kirirua-Gill made a nice 21 as well.

Merbein have the bye after an opening round win.
