Great Scott! Another nomination for lawn bowler

EUSTON bowler Tony Scott has a chance to win his second Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year award next year.

The 2018 Peter Manolas Trophy winner was nominated for the 2024 edition following his exploits at the Australian Blind Bowls Association National Championships, alongside his volunteer hours for his home club.

Scott currently serves as the chairman of selectors for the Australian Blind Bowls Association, and became vice-president in 2022.

Scott was chasing a 10th title at the national championships held at the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club, being victorious in the B3 Open Singles, where he won nine of a possible 10 games to finish two games clear of the rest of the field.

Against four opponents he won both games, while against his fifth opponent who is a current member of the Australian Para Jackaroos, they each won one game.

He also experienced success in the B3/B4 Open Pairs, where he took silver alongside a teammate competing in his first national championship.

As the July winner Scott received an Intersport voucher and is eligible for the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year.

Scott joins fellow lawn bowler Carolyn Coles, Kaylene Geddes (golf), Jarod Waters (speedway), Sophie Bowring (roller derby), Charlie Cooper (boxing) and Sophie Thomson (water ski racing) as the current nominees for the Manolas Trophy.

The awards night will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Club Da Vinci, Mildura.

Mallee Sports Assembly is now calling for August nominations for Sports Star of the Year Awards.
