Workers welcome Suns’ heat

By Chris Mitchell

WORKERS will take the contest to Irymple in the match of the round to be played at Cureton Avenue in the Bowls Sunraysia Saturday Pennant action.

The home side will need to get off to a good start in the round five clash against the ladder leaders and much will depend on the draw.

Peter Bishop’s rink has produced some solid returns and a match up against Graeme Lynch would be a promoter’s dream.

Roger Bray replaces Fred Bacon as skip for Workers and Ken Capper is also out for the home side.

Neville Mitchell has his rink of brother Peter, Eddy Vuik and Richard Clarke firing after a good win over Mildura’s Keith Sharman last week.

Not to be denied the Irymple unit has been up and about in the early part of the season and look to be early flag favourites.

Chris Maddigan has taken to the role of skip leading his rink of Graeme Phillips, Anthony Kelly and Darren Cordwell to some solid results.

Graeme Lynch sits on top of the skips table and Matt West has solid performers up front with Mick Legin and Graham Newey. The Sun’s to rise to the occasion.

Meanwhile, Merbein will sit a solid exam at Mildura after some big form in recent weeks.

David Maud in a skipping role this year has Eric Watson, Allan Johnston and John Pineo delivering in spades.

Jeff ‘Jumbo’ Greenhill’s rink is firing and will be looking to take the game up to the Magic.

Laurie McLaine is growing into the skips role and with a solid performance last week will be looking to go all out tomorrow.

Magic will be keen to continue their run with the inclusion of multiple singles champion Judy Osborne and the return of Peter Ellis for his first game this year.

Both are upfront players and will provide quality starts for their rink. Magic to win in a tight tussle.

Finally Ouyen head up the Calder to Red Cliffs.

The Tigers took a bit of tumble against Merbein last week and will be keen to get back on the winning track and the Two Blues will need to adapt to the magic carpet from the get go.

Both sides will be searching for the points in an effort to stay in touch with the four.

Tigers’ Maurie Press and Michael Clifford are solid performers and will have their teams purring early.

Not to be denied Janet Vallance and Allan Crook are strong draw bowlers and will be pressing for the Two Blues. Tigers to win in a tough tie.

Second Division Nangiloc are at home to Irymple in a third verses fourth matchup.

The winner could graduate to second spot. With much to play for the home side to shine.

Coomealla will be looking to fire at home against second placed Mildura.

Already sitting two games clear of the competition the Cannons look the side to beat.

The Magic have a few tricks in the bag and will be a solid examination for the home side. Toss a coin.

Ouyen are at home to Workers. The home side went down by a solitary shot to Nangiloc last week and will be pressing to get on the winners list this week.

The Green and Gold tickled Mildura last week. Paper, scissors, rock. Too close to call.

Division Three ladder leaders Euston will face off against second placed Wentworth. The Steamers at home will be too solid for the Bandits.

Red Cliffs host Workers 3, both are only one game shy of the four and need a win to restore their finals chances. Workers to win.

Irymple play Merbein. The winner will secure a spot in the four.

Currently both are equal on points, with the shot differential favouring the Suns. Irymple to win.

Mildura host Underbool and the home side will start favourites. Magic to win.

Division Four see Euston 3 forfeiting to Euston 2 and Irymple 4 take on Coomealla.

The winner to take top spot on the ladder and a game clear and it’s one for the Suns.

In Mildura 4 v Mildura 5 bragging rights are up for grabs and a spot in the four. Mildura 4 to produce the tricks required.

Finally Red Cliffs host Underbool and with only 2 points separating these sides there is much to play for. Tigers to win.
