FINALS are locked in following the last round of Murray Darling Golf Association Pennant at the weekend at Merbein Golf Club.
While Mildura and Red Cliffs had already been confirmed for the men’s Division 1 final, the other three divisions have now followed suit ahead of this Sunday’s final at Coomealla Golf Club.
In the Ladies Division, neither Red Cliffs nor Coomealla White could get a leg up on the other before their grand final match-up after finishing all square in their round 5 clash.
Sue Ellen Nunan had a 5/4 win over Ruth Cupper to get Coomealla off to the stronger start, while Nia Whittle had a 6/5 win over Julianne Wood.
For Red Cliffs, Rita Chase had a tight 1-up win over Erin Nunan, while Sandra Marwood claimed a 4/2 victory against Kate Murdoch.
Deb Dark and Heidi Schultz finished all square, which ultimately ensure both teams would make Sunday’s final.
In the other final-round match, Coomealla Blue defeated Riverside 4-1 for their first win of the season.
Heather Klemm got Riverisde off to the ideal start with a 1-up win over Kylie Waters, however the NSW club got on a roll with Carolyn Croke and Nycole Riordan earning victories against Tracey Bryan and Wendy Dawson, respectively.
Angela Plumridge’s 2/1 win over Marg Lampard secured the overall win, before Sue Laird took out a brilliant contest against young gun Steph Baker 1-up.
Mildura are set to meet an undefeated Riverside outfit in the Division 2 men’s final on Sunday after moving into the top two at the expense of Red Cliffs following a 4-1 win over Merbein.
Despite the overall scoreline, the margins were fairly close in each contest as Tim O’Neil, Paul White, Cameron Smith and Rob Morgan each earned wins.
Oscar Mannix earned Merbein’s point with a 4-2 result over Matt Adams.
Riverside’s 3.5-1.5 win over Red Cliffs ensured they won all five of their fixtures for the season, while their opponents miss the final with fewer games won than Mildura despite being even on points.
Josh Bailey, Scott Webster and Kendall Marchment each earned wins, Glen Walker finished square with Aaron Finch, while Anthony Lee was the sole winner for Red Cliffs by finishing 2-up over Rob Garioch.
Looking to finish their seasons on a high, Coomealla and Robinvale shared the spoils with a halved contest.
James Clay and Anthony Scarcella shared the spoils in the opening contest, before Josef Moisidis and Luke Perry earned wins for Coomealla, and Cameron Browne and Blaine Cucia did likewise for Robinvale.
Robinvale finished on top of a congested Division 3 men’s table and after their Division 2 side won last year, they will hope to follow suit against Coomealla.
The NSW side made the top two after scraping through by winning just half a game more than Red Cliffs, showing how close the competition has been.
Robinvale confirmed their position with a 3-2 win over Mildura, and while Mildura held a 2-1 lead, a 2/1 win for Barry Evans and a 2-up win for Jacob Pulvermueller ensured Robinvale earned the victory.
Meanwhile, Coomealla finished square with Riverside as John Denman and Gary McNally were unable to be split in the final match-up of the card.
Red Cliffs held on for a 3-2 win over Ouyen after two matches came out as squared results.
Despite Nic Vine’s 1-up win over Junior Puia, wins for Jason Plant and David Spencer, the latter also being a 1-up result, ensured Red Cliffs won.
Pennant golf finals begin 9am at Coomealla Golf Club on Sunday.
