Giofrelle goes again

WITH a season under her belt in the role, Robinvale Euston’s Georgia Giofrelle is excited to continue as A Grade netball coach.

The Eagles formally announced the 21-year-old’s re-signing as coach this week and she hopes to continue the upward trajectory for the club’s netball program.

With her appointment at the end of 2023, Giofrelle became the youngest coach at the top level of the Sunraysia Football and Netball League, which followed a brilliant individual season in which she won the club best and fairest and made the SFNL Team of the Year, no mean feat for a team with two wins and a draw.

A young Eagles squad finished with the same record the season just gone, but appear to be building a strong foundation for the future.

While Giofrelle hopes for some more recruits to come, captain and best-and-fairest winner Kirsten Neyland and emerging mid-court player Mia Doherty have recommitted, while the versatile Taneh Romeo is set to come back after a year off.

“It feels pretty good, I’m excited to be back at it again,” Giofrelle said.

“The first year was a bit challenging but having a bench coach and so many experienced people around me at the club made the world of difference.

“Balancing playing and coaching was a bit difficult but that support made life much easier.

“We’re striving to be the best we can be as individuals and as a team.

“I’m hoping to get a few new players which might change our game style up a bit, but it’s probably too early to tell at this stage.

“We’re already into pre-season and there’s been a number of the junior girls who have performed really well so if they can keep doing that they’ll get their opportunities.”
