Robinvale-Euston win sixth on the trot

ROBINVALE-Euston have won their sixth game in a row, defeating Irymple by six points at Henshilwood Oval on Saturday in SFNL round 12.

In one of the games of the season the game see-sawed throughout but it was the Eagles who prevailed with a 14.8 (92) to 13.8 (86) to stamp themselves as real premiership contenders after what coach Andrew Richardson described post-match as one of the best wins of his career.

“I’m rapt, we really could have thrown in the towel in that last quarter and to the boys’ credit we’ve just got this will to grind games out at the moment,” he said.

Ethan Gill was gargantuan for the visiting side while returning Bendigo Pioneer Phillip Moimoi was electric throughout.

The reigning premiers were far from disgraced on their home patch, threatening to run over the top of the Eagles in the last quarter with co-coach Todd George and lanky key position forward Chase Stone prominent in front of the sticks.

Meanwhile Merbein were just a point down at three quarter time to Imperials and were right in with a chance for their first win of the season but the Green and Whites had other plans with a four goal to none fourth quarter to break their run of three consecutive losses with a 12.12 (84) to 8.12 (60) win.

Down at Ouyen’s Blackburn park Ouyen United had no such trouble, leading by 48 points at quarter time before romping home to a 23.15 (153) to 3.7 (25) win over South Mildura.

On the netball court Merbein defeated Imperials 50-45, Irymple were comfortable 57-30 winners over Robinvale-Euston and South Mildura came back up the highway after a solid 47-37 win over South Mildura.
