Suns firm as elite

IRYMPLE have sent a clear message to the rest of the Sunraysia bowls Saturday pennant competition that they are the team to beat after recording a thumping 70-shot win over Red Cliffs at the Cauldron on Saturday.

A big winner for the Suns unit was Graeme Lynch’s rink of Darren Cass, Greg Brown and Trevor Flack who recorded a 44-12 win over Carolyn Coles rink.

Lynch remains top of the players table as the only undefeated Division 1 skip. Irymple defeating Red Cliffs 109 (12) to Red Cliffs 39 (0).

At Kenny Park the Hawks took no prisoners defeating Workers 81(12) – 49 (0).

Jeff “Jumbo” Greenhill put the fire out in Peter Bishop’s rink with a 33-13 rink win. By all accounts Evan Rice played a blinder for Greenhill.

Jack Anderson took out Roger Bray 28-20 and Laurie McLaine got home 20 -16 over Neville Mitchell.

Ouyen took on Mildura at Blackburn Park with the visitors jumping out early leaders.

As the temperature increased so did the pressure applied by the Two Blues. Butch Pollock got home by two shots over Alan Crook winning 22- 20.

Mark Eckel 24 – 19 against Janet Vallance and The Major, back to skip in place of Keith Sharman, winning 20-19 over Mick Donaghy. The Magic recording a 66 (12) – 58 (0) victory.

Division 2 matches went as predicted with the top three sides all recording comfortable wins.

Irymple won on two rinks scoring 89 (10)- Workers 70 (2). Terry Bourke doing the damage for the Suns recording a 39-16 win over Di Smith.

Coomealla confirmed their favouritism as Div 2 heavy weight contenders as they continue to make a statement.

The Cannons fired in unison hitting the target to record a 38 shot win over Nangiloc. Much of the pain was inflicted by Adrian Barko’s rink who recorded a 40 – 6 win over Matt Andrews. The Cannons winning 89 (10) – 51 (2).

Mildura took the points over Ouyen at Blackburn Park. Reg Gardner’s rink were too strong for Alan “Sammy” Floyd’s rink winning 32-17 to set up the Magic’s overall win 71 (10) – 60 (2).

Third Division top side Wentworth were challenged by Merbein but held on to win 74 (10) to 65 (2). Jacob Ralph, Alan Behsmann, Rod Baird and Dianne Pumpa too good for Bryce Midgley’s quartet winning 32-19.

Bottom side Workers upset Irymple recording a seven shot win. Col Gowers constructing an 11 shot win over Lorraine Milward to help the Green and Gold to collect the points.

Mildura were the big winners over Euston, collecting all 12 points on offer. Chris Barry’s rink of Shirley Pupillo, Glenys Yeowart and Peter Russell 32 – 15 winners over Doug Brown. The Magic winning 84 (12) – Bandits 50 (0).

Underbool amassed an all points 54 shot win over Red Cliffs. Rob Gloster (S), Cameron Gloster, John Pryse and Alan Willsmore too good for Brendon Cockfield winning 43-10 for the home side. Underbool 104(12) defeated Red Cliffs 50 (0).

Fourth Division Mildura 5 defeated Irymple 43 (6) – 38 (2). Mel Southee’s rink getting the Magic home 24 -18. Euston 2 were too solid for a developing Mildura 4 side. Bandits winning 59 (6) – 35 (2).

The Coomealla Cannons hit their targets to score an all points win over Underbool 60 (8) – 34 (0). Euston 3 were the winners over Red Cliffs 61 (6) to 47 (2).
