Pro-am success against the stars

RUBBING shoulders with some of Australia’s best golfers, including Cameron Smith and Lucas Herbert, is an experience Josef Moisidis won’t forget.

On top of that, the Coomealla Golf Club member can lay claim to beating both of the LIV Golf stars.

Before last weekend’s NSW Open at Murray Downs, Moisidis was part of the pro-am team that tasted victory at the event.

Australian Farming Services, led by professional Andrew Campbell, claimed first place in the morning session with 101 points in the Texas scramble format, allowing each team to select their best positioned ball from the tee shot and each play from the location of the chosen ball for their next shot.

Moisidis and Campbell were joined on the team by Josh Forster and Kayne McAlpine.

“It was a bit of fun being there at Murray Downs,” Moisidis said.

“We were lucky our workplace was a sponsor of the tournament, and so myself and two colleagues were able to team with Andrew.

“I left town at 4am that morning and drove down for our morning tee-off time.

“It was my first experience of a pro-am and it was fantastic. The quality of golfers you get to play with is amazing.

“I felt bad for Andrew because when we were in the cart I was asking him a million questions about being a professional, but he was awesome with his time.”

Even the experience of watching players of Herbert and Smith’s quality was a great experience for Moisidis, with Herbert going on to pip his Ripper GC teammate for the Kel Nagle Cup.

“They’re obviously just another level,” he said.

“The crowd was amazing, especially in that last round following Cam and Lucas around, to experience that in Swan Hill and Murray Downs was pretty incredible.

“I’ll definitely be in the boss’s ear again if another opportunity comes up.”
