Ouyen stay in touch

OUYEN have stayed in touch with the top four by taking down Irymple at Blackburn Park in Midweek Pennant bowls.

The Two Blues’ Sue Kelly, Ken Graham, Lorraine Hickmott and Matthew Martin were too good for Lorraine Millward’s rink in a 34-16 win.

Graeme Phillips’ rink countered for the Suns, winning 30-17 over Janet Vallance.

But Geoff Hahnel’s rink of Roy Latta, Barbara Hahnel and Val Latt provided the buffer for the home side winning 26-19 over Ian Kellett. Overall, Ouyen won 77(10) to 65(2).

Mildura continued its dominance in the competition with an all-points, 44-shot victory over the Coomealla Cannons.

Ken Yeowart, Judy Osborne, Fran Richards and Rob Hanns were the dominant performers for the Magic with a 35-17 win over Mark Deakin as Mildura 94(12) defeated Coomealla 50(0).

Red Cliffs consolidated their position in the four with a solid 20-shot win over Workers at Tiger Park.

Michael Clifford, Fred Giugno, Brenda Lindsay and June Spry were the standout performers for the Tigers, winning 33-14 over Peter Bishop. The overall result was 80(10) to 60(2).

In Division 2, Workers 2 defeated top side Mildura by eight shots, 48(6) to 40(2).

Ron Boyd, Bernadette Stone, Brian Kolpin and Daphne Loveday were the best for Workers, knocking over Peter Ellis’s Magic rink 31-17. Wayne Long went down to Reg Gardner 17-23.

Irymple collected all eight points against Underbool, 55(8) to 33(0), and now sit fourth on the table.

Ian McLean, Rita Lynch, Gino Fioretti and Leanne Smith were Irymple’s best rink winning 29-14 over Robert Gloster. Rod Ellis had a win over Marie Cummings 26-19.

Euston took out Workers 3, 51(6) to 40(2).

The big winners for Euston were Lina Morgan, Graham Smith, a substitute and Christine Smith, who defeated Joy Stevens 36-15. Don Crothers lost to Anthony Tormey 15-25.

Wentworth were full steam ahead as they had PS Ruby in full flight collecting all the points against Red Cliffs, 74(8) to 26(0).

Steamers Sue Nichols, Ann Dawes, Alan Behsmann and Rod Baird were the high flyers for the home side, winning 42-13 over Wayne Shelly’s rink. Dianne Pumpa defeated Mark Ford 32-13.
