WINNING is great, that’s why we play sport; well, why most of us do.
However, it’s also about having fun and learning while sometimes entertaining.
That’s what the Millewa team’s A Grade coach and B Grade player Brooke Watson got out of the Dreamtime at the P netball competition last weekend.
“There was a good crowd there,” Watson said.
“Everyone seemed to be happy about how the way things went and there was lots of positive feedback,” she said.
“The games were good. The juniors were a bit one-sided, but the B Grade was close, we only won by three and then in A Grade, the Millewa girls got off to a slow start, but they gelled in the second half, and it was a good game to watch,” the coach said of a hard-fought 48-38 victory over the indigenous Mallee Tigers team.
“Kaylie Monaghan played a great game, and Amber King is very tall, and they had a hard time stopping her.
“You always like winning but it’s not always the be all and end all. Everybody had a good day and the players on both teams learnt things… playing with other players and modifying your game and different coaching, as well, will obviously help them in the future.”
Watson is a fan of the current Mallee v Tigers format and believes it could even expand.
“We were asked by Swan Hill if we wanted a game, but we were committed to this,” she said of an interleague approach a couple of weeks ago.
“We might look at inviting (Central Rivers) up next year and doing a round-robin type of thing so we can all play together. Play a round robin between the teams. Let’s see what happens.”
