A CAMPAIGN aimed to discourage people from drunk driving to and from the races is set to be rolled out in regional Victoria.
The Transport Accident Commission staff, in partnership with Country Racing Victoria, planned to launch the Ready campaign with ads on social media and in race books in the lead-up to events.
CRV chair Chas Armytage said people could overlooked the planning of safe transport with all of the excitement surrounding race day.
“It’s vital for all racegoers to plan ahead not only for the event itself but also for their transportation needs,” he said.
“CRV and country clubs remain committed to working with the TAC to promote this important educational message.”
The campaign is aimed at regional Victorians due to the disproportionate amount of lives lost on the roads in 2024 compared to metropolitan areas.
last year 282 people died on Victorian roads, with almost half occurring in regional areas.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne encouraged people to think twice before hopping behind the wheel while under the influence.
“If you plan on having a drink at the races, taking a taxi, train, bus or lift home is your best bet,” she said.
