TV series review: 13 Reasons Why, Season 3

By Sydnie Kendall

Genre: Drama

Where to watch: Netflix

Cast:  Dylan Minnette, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe

Creator: Brian Yorkey

SEASON three of 13 Reasons Why looks at Bryce Walker’s sudden murder, where everyone at Liberty High is a suspect.

Oh my. Oh my, oh my, oh my. What a mess!

Where did this show go wrong? The sad truth is, too many places.

13 Reasons Why is scrounging for any kind of new inspiration.

It falls short now that it has left behind its original concept. I think instead of trying to sort through the lives and look out for Tyler and the others, these kids should have sought out some serious, medical help.

There doesn’t even seem to be a coming of age story line. The characters are simply put through one hardship after another without little to show for it.

It is like Home and Away, Hawaii 5-O and the Bold and the Beautiful teamed up together and were like, “you now, let’s try to make the worst teenage melodrama that has ever seen the light of day”. Good decision? You tell me?

What made the original season so enticing was its urge of realism in an tragic subject matter. What Brian Yorkey has left us with is what is now forever going to be referred to as “The Game of Thrones decent”. Where a show loses its source material and is unable to come up with new, inspiring content, leaving us with, well, with whatever you think appropriate to call 13 Reasons Why. The writing is horrible, the storyline confusing and the acting unbelievable.

To sum up: The third season of 13 Reasons Why is just bad. What started off as a semi-strong first season, declined strongly in its second and then absolutely failed in its third.
