SUNRAYSIA will send strong teams to the under 15 and 17 Netball Victoria state titles in Melbourne this weekend.
The squad is made up of 20 netballers across the two age groups who have been selected from the Sunraysia Football and Netball league, Millewa Netball League and Mildura Netball Association.
Sunraysia state titles officer Alana Mills is confident both teams will enjoy good results.
“This year we feel like we have built two of the strongest teams that we have had in quite some time and are hoping for some good success,” she said.
“We certainly have a better calibre of players than we have had previously, so it would be wonderful to show improvement in our region.”
The players were selected through a trial process and have been training together for eight weeks.
Ms Mills was especially impressed with their result in the Mildura Spring Carnival Tournament in late September when the under 15 team finished second and the under 17 team won the tournament.
“That’s a really good showing, that’s the best we have done at that Spring Carnival Tournament, ever,” she said.
Three referees will travel down with the Sunraysia team, with the state titles a great place for them to receive feedback and progress.
“It’s great for them to be able to receive feedback away from the Mildura leagues that is going to help them get to the next badge level,” Ms Mills said.
The two teams will play 17 games each over Saturday and Sunday at Kilsyth, which Ms Mills stressed wouldn’t be possible without the support of the local netball associations.
“We are very lucky that Mildura netball association, Millewa association and Sunraysia Football and Netball League sponsor the state titles teams to help the cost for our players.”
