Murray Darling ladies in thrilling victory

FOR the first time in more than three decades Murray Darling has won  the men’s and ladies’ titles at Golf Victoria’s Country Week, which was  held in Melbourne this week.

Competing against the best country golfers in the state, the ladies were successful in Division 2 while the men claimed the Division 1 crown.

The ladies’ victory means they will now join the men in the top division next year.

The last time both sides were victorious in the same year was 1985.

Murray Darling is one of the smallest golfing regions in the state, with many of the other teams having thousands more players to choose from.

But despite the lack of numbers, the local sides proved they can match it with the best.

The ladies, who won Division 3 last year, won after a thrilling finish to their three days of competition.

Leading heading into the final day, Murray Darling had the bye and an anxious wait.

In the end it came down to individual match results to determine the winner between Murray Darling and South Western.

The teams were locked together on equal wins as well as number of matches, so it came down to the individual match results between the two districts, which Murray Darling had won.
