Club-by-club Sunraysia cricket preview

Coomealla Wentworth

President: Jordan Wade

Coach: Brad Woolley

First Division Captain: Justin Freeman

Last season: fourth

In: None

Out: Frank Neser (Sydney), Kobe Smith (Melbourne), Colby Wade (Rodchester)

“You are always looking to improve and I think with more shorter format matches this year our bowling is going to play a big part. We just want to maintain our consistency and hopefully we put ourselves in with a chance again.”
– Coomealla Wentworth captain Justin Freeman

Irymple

President: Dean Connelly

Coaches: Mark Thomson, Shane Garraway

First Division Captain: Jordan Payne

Last season: third

In: Bryson Lush (Mildura West), Matt Austin (returning after a break)

Out: None

“I think it is going to be interesting how clubs adapt to the new format early in the season. I think there is going to be a lot of tactics which will come into play, but we have a bit to prove after a pretty disappointing semi-final last season.”
– joint Irymple coaches Mark Thomson and Shane Garraway

Merbein South

President: Aaron Walder

Coach: Darren James

First Division captain: Ethan Gray

Last season: eighth

In: Cameron Grimwood (Hetton Lyons Cricket Club, England)

Out: Aaron Wright (non-returning import), Henry Cheal (non-returning import), Daniel Chapman (Nichols Point)

“Consistency is probably a big thing for me this year, I’m really looking forward to that consistency from the club and certain individuals at the club, it’s time for them to stand up on their own two feet.”
– Merbein South coach Darren James

Mildura East

President: Matthew Hunt

Coach: Josh Berry

First Division Captain: Josh Berry

Last season: sixth

In: Regan Connell (Melbourne)

Out: Shaun Mathews (Nichols Point), Brad Thomas (Nichols Point), Jonah Wright (Fire Brigade)

“I think this coming season will be a great opportunity for our younger players to develop their game. I am super excited to be able to provide more opportunity to our younger brigade in Jayden Hunt, Charlie Berry and Jhy Berry who will lead our bowling attack. I think that bowling group can be as good any in the competition. We’ve also got young batsmen in Blake Myers and Shawn Clarke who will make his debut in round 1 after both having impressive pre-seasons. We are under no illusions- season 2019/2020 is going to have it’s fair share of difficult days with such a young and inexpierenced group, but as long as we continue to improve and play our style of cricket then we will know we are moving in the right direction.”
– Mildura East captain-coach Josh Berry

Mildura Settlers

President: Brett Roberston

Coach: Tarque Williamson

First Division Captain: Braidyn Turner

Last season: premiers

In: Mark Cleary (returning after a year off), John Pratt

Out: None

“He (Mark Cleary) probably won’t bowl much – his body is not what it used to be so he will play most as a batter and maybe chip in with a few overs every now and then. The bowling work load will be left a lot on Coatesy (Luke Coates), Seamus (Keogh), Richie (Wyld) and Brak (Zambelli) – we will be very similar to last year, but obviously Cleary will come in as a middle order batsman and maybe top of the order in one day games.”
– Mildura Settlers captain Braidyn Turner

President: Richard Chamberlain

Coach: Chris Williams

First Division Captain: Chris Williams

Last season: seventh

In: Matt Lee (Tasmania), George Woods (Goondiwindi), Aaron Sorez (Hartleford CC England), Will Parsons (Langford CC, England), Than Rajapaske (Workers Gol Gol)

Out: Dewit Mulholland (Melbourne)

“By adding some more depth to the side it is going to free Chris (Williams) up a bit more and take some pressure off him. We were very reliant on him last season, buy by bringing in a couple of quality slow bowlers he will be able to bowl seam which gives us a lot more diversity as a team.”
– Mildura West all-rounder Brandon Dixon

Nichols Point

President: Jamie Milton

Coaches: Shaun Mathews and Kaushik Aphale

First Division Captain: Brad Thomas

Last season: fifth

In: Shaun Mathews (Mildura East), Brad Thomas (Mildura East), Daniel Chapman (Merbein South), Dylan Christian (returning after a break)

Out: Jamaine Bullen (non-returning import), Gary Sandow (Melbourne)

“All the better sides are always a good fielding team. We have put more of a focus around fielding, which the group is really thriving with.”
– joint Nichols Point coaches Shaun Mathews and Kaushik Aphale

Workers Gol Gol

President: Richard Tankard

Coach: Adam Thomson

First Division Captain: Adam Thomson

Last season: runners up

In: Jordan Birch (returning to club after ankle injury), Muhammad Haidry (Mildura Settlers), Dillan Drew (Mildura Settlers), Greg Collihole (Coomealla Wentworth), Arslan Safdar (La Trobe Uni Melbourne)

Out: Than Rajapaske (Mildura West), Vas Saris (Millewa)

“As a club we are hoping for some improvement from younger players such as Tyson Adamson and Lauchie Wade as they get more exposure in senior cricket.”
– Workers Gol Gol captain-coach Adam Thomson
