WELCOME to the 2019-20 Cricket Season, it is shaping as a good one for the Mildura Workingmans Club Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA).
All but one of the opening round matches commence at 12.30pm this Saturday as the SCA forge a new era of cricket at 4pm.
- Sunraysia cricket lights up to start new season
- Club-by-club Sunraysia cricket preview
- Mildura Settlers target more SCA success
In a first for SCA cricket, a day/night match will commence at Gol Gol in the much anticipated rematch of last years Tankard Dental Grand Final between Workers Gol Gol and Mildura Settlers.
This is one of many changes made to the SCA format to help participation and enjoyment of the game at a local level.
Together with an increased emphasis on Twenty20 cricket, the SCA have given the fans the opportunity to enjoy cricket in the evening under lights while continuing to provide strong competitions for women and juniors throughout the summer months.
It’s a staggered approach to the season start with First and Second Divisions commencing this weekend, while women and juniors kick off a week later.
Third and Fourth Division have two weeks to wait for their season to commence on October 19.
In a new addition to SCA competition a junior girls division has been introduced to build on the already successful women’s competition.
It is hoped that this will build on the success of ex-local youngsters Makinley Blows and Rhiann O’Donnell who built their game at the local level.
As always the SCA rely on its officials to keep things running smoothly and once again we are calling for people who might like to watch the game from the best place possible whilst also getting paid for their role.
Any prospective umpires can contact the SCUA through the association website.
Once again the SCA thanks the valued contributions of our partners in the local game and we wish all of our clubs, players and supporters all the very best for the upcoming season ahead.
