OUYEN’S Alex Morrish will lead the Red Cliffs Cricket Association’s side against Mildura East in tomorrow’s Pink Stumps/Josh Herrick tribute match at Quandong Park.
Morrish has enjoyed a solid start to the season with the bat, and a sensational one with the ball with 158 runs at an average of 39.50 and 17 wickets at a miserly average of six.
The match is held in memory of former cricketer Josh Herrick who died in May 2010 after a 17-month fight against osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, with the Red Cliffs Cricket Association and Mildura East – the SCA club his father Paul played for – playing off in a memorial Twenty20 match in his honour since then.
“It’s sensational how it’s been running for 10 years,” Paul Herrick said.
This year the match will be held in conjunction with the South West Cricket Club-led Pink Stumps Day raising funds for the McGrath Foundation.
Also in the Red Cliffs team is Mark East (Fire Brigade), Jason Beard (Fire Brigade), Anthony Shaw (Nursery Ridge), Shannon Bowen (Nursery Ridge), Heath Smith (Tempy), Ben Mole (Tempy), Daniel Pryse (Ouyen), Peter Heath (Millewa), Brady Moore (Fire Brigade), Lachlan Rohde (Fire Brigade), Mick Pedler (South West) and Connor Darby (Fire Brigade).
The match is scheduled to start at 6pm, with an under-14 curtainraiser from 4pm.
Noah Holmyard will captain that side, with Rylan Newey vice-captain.
Luke Fitzgerald, James Bobbin, Aimee Pearce, Jonty Staley, Taj Fentjar, Ethan Pateman, Shaquille Swift, Sam O’Shannesy, Jack Wisneske, Blake Smith and Noah Ziguras make up the rest of the team.
