SCA under-13 girls run away with title

THE Sunraysia Cricket Association’s under-13 girls streaked away with the Western Victoria Girls Cricket Cup on Wednesday, dismantling Warrnambool and District in the final at Hamilton.

With storm conditions expected for the afternoon in Warrnambool, the round 5 match between the sides was changed to the final.

By this point it would have been impossible for Sunraysia and second-placed Warrnambool to be unseated from the top two spots.

Sunraysia finished undefeated at the tournament and were rarely challenged. That continued when they sent Warrnambool in Wednesday and held them to just 2/43 after 20 overs.

Bronte Fryar and Abby Collihole took one wicket each, Fryar 1/3 from four overs and Collihole 1/9 from three, while only one of the seven bowlers Sunraysia used conceded double-digit runs.
In response, Sunraysia lost three wickets before passing Warrnambool’s total, however batted on to finish with 6/102 from their 20 overs.

Collihole smashed a quick 25 off 17 balls before retiring and Ruby Saris scored 10 not out to top the batting scorecard for Sunraysia.

The Workers Gol Gol rising star was the clear standout over the week for Sunraysia, taking a team-high five wickets at an average of 3.8 and scoring 125 runs (the next best was 43) without being dismissed, including a top score of 50 not out.
