Season over for Sunraysia’s Jake Reed

FORMER Sunraysia cricketer Jake Reed’s season is over after he suffered a knee injury in Footscray’s Premier Cricket victory over Melbourne at the weekend.

Reed, a member of the Victorian squad, had bowled just 4.2 overs on the opening day of the two day match.

The talented paceman is in his first season with Footscray after being recruited from Geelong in the off season and has taken nine wickets from four games at an average of 17.2.

Footscray coach Allan Wise confirmed Reed would need a knee reconstruction to repair the damage he had suffered.

“He picked the ball up in his follow through, went to throw it and twisted his knee. Like most of them, it was quite innocuous,” Wise said.

“It’s unfortunate for him. We’re all really shattered for him and hopefully he can recover well.

“It was probably what we feared. We were hopeful by the end of last Saturday, when he was feeling a little bit better, that it may not have been season ending.

“It’s really disappointing for him. He was starting to bowl really impressively.”
