Langtree Mall sale day a big leap for traders

THERE was a fun, loud and colourful buzz about Langtree Mall on Saturday morning, as shoppers celebrated a once-every-four-years occasion.

In the spirit of February 29, Mildura City Heart hosted a Leap Year Sale with $2.90 coffees, and $29 and 29 per cent off specials throughout the shopping precinct.

City Heart administration assistant Raelene Shields said the one-day-only sale was about offering residents an experience they otherwise wouldn’t have online.

She said it drew a large crowd to the shopping precinct and had inspired more mini-events in a bid to encourage people to continue shopping local.

“You always need to compete against online shopping,” she said.

“So we are always looking at anything we can do to give that little bit of extra experience people otherwise can’t get sitting on the couch online shopping.

“The crowds were great. We had people wandering up the mall – there seemed to people in every shop and all the shops seemed to have big success.

“I will need to check in and get feedback from everybody to see how they went, but I spoke to a couple of shopkeepers and they were just rapt with day.”

As part of the event, children were also treated to entertainment throughout the morning, including children’s entertainers Get Your Groove On and a free jumping castle.

Ms Shields said the event, and particularly the entertainers, received overwhelming positive feedback from both shopkeepers and the general public.

“We actually had someone come into the office to compliment us because they were up near Eleventh Street, heard it and came for a wander down just to see what was going on, which is the whole idea of doing events,” she said.

“Get Your Groove On were really fun and we definitely will have them back again.

“It was the first time we had them here and we had such amazing feedback from parents and the general public, people of all ages were listening, watching and smiling.”
