Workers minor premiers

WORKERS Bowls Club have cemented top spot on the Sunraysia Midweek Pennant Division 1 bowls ladder after a commanding performance over Coomealla.

Ken Job led the charge for Workers with a solid 34-9 win over Fred Posgate. Job was well supported by Peter Bishop, who won 32-9 over Mark Deakin, in the 90(12) to 39(0) victory.

Irymple put Mildura to the sword with a convincing 75(11) to 56(1) win.

Ian Kellett piloted his rink of Wayne Gardner, John Vuik and Chris Scott to a 28-10 win over Ken Yeowart to set up the Suns’ win.

Red Cliffs upset Ouyen with a resounding 88(10) to 50(2) victory.

Michael Clifford was the dominant force for the Tigers with a 40-13 win over Janet Vallance. The win put the Tigers on the cusp of finals action as they knocked Ouyen out of the four.

With one round to play, there could still be moves on the ladder. Can Mildura keep second place? Can Ouyen produce the form to make the finals?

In Division 2, further big results were recorded, as Workers defeated top side Mildura 49(6) to 41(2).

Underbool took out Irymple 44(6) to 36(2), Workers 3 went down narrowly to Euston 46(2) to 48(6), and Wentworth collected the points over Red Cliffs 52(6) to 40(2).

Mildura are the minor premiers in Division 2 after the completion of home-and-away matches.
