RED Cliffs Butchery has taken out the top gong at the Australian Meat Industry Regional Sausage King competition.
It is the second year in a row the business has won gold in the North West Victoria section of the competition for its continental sausage.
The butchery also entered its cheese kabana, winning bronze.
Owner Ben Gathercole said it was wonderful to win another Sausage King competition.
Mr Gathercole said the continental sausage was very popular and a lot of time had gone into perfecting it.
The continental sausage is made of pork with “secret herbs and spices”.
“We played around with it a few years ago and tried to get something good, it was trial and error for a little while,” he said.
Several other Sunraysia butchers also took part in the Sausage King competition, with Irymple Butchers winning two silver and two bronze awards, the Butcher on Deakin claiming one silver and one bronze, and Wagner and Giddings taking home a bronze.
Mr Gathercole said it was great to compete against other butchers in the region.
“It’s good to beat the local ones, gives you some bragging rights,” he said.
Now Mr Gathercole is preparing for the state Sausage King competition, which will be held later this year.
He admitted he was a bit nervous about this one as Red Cliffs Butchery had never taken out the top prize.
