More shopping restrictions at Sunraysia supermarkets

SUNRAYSIA residents are facing more supermarket restrictions as Woolworths and Coles implement new purchasing limits.

Supermarket shelves continue to be stripped bare as people prepare for an expected widespread outbreak of coronavirus.

Woolworths announced a purchase limit of two items from any single category on most packaged products.

“This means customers will only be able to buy two products from any single included category, regardless of the brand or variety,” a Woolworths spokesman said.

“There are some exceptions where no limits remain, such as fruit and vegetables, fresh milk and baby food. We ask customers to please respect these limits and only buy what they need.”

As Coles shelves also continue to be stripped bare they have announced customers can only buy two packets of mince meat per customer.

Coles stated on its website that its team members, suppliers and transport partners were working hard to deliver more products to stores everyday and they were stocking shelves as quickly as possible.

Aldi has followed Woolworths and Coles in announcing altered trading hours.

The supermarket will now operate from 9.30am to 7pm.

“We will continue to re-evaluate these hours on a weekly basis and communicate the decision to either uphold these hours or return to normal trading hours,” an Aldi spokeswoman said.

Woolworths and Coles introduced altered trading hours earlier this week, opting to close their store by 8pm.

All supermarkets, including IGA, have banded together with a joint message asking customers to be buy only what they need and stick to product limits.

“It helps everyone, especially the elderly and people with a disability,” a joint supermarket statement said.
