RED CLIFFS

ON Wednesday the ladies played the foursomes Stableford qualifying round of the Doris Chambers, with 34 in the field the winners were Sally Jones and Jenny McCoy on 40 points. 

Runners up were Deb Hassell and Rita Chase on 34 points.

Balls went to Ruth Cupper, Jill Eyles, Sandy Wright, Dee Hopkins Margaret Stanbrook , Julianne Wood. 
In the men’s competition Kevin Leach was in good form scoring +4 to win from Mark Wilson on +2.
NTP: 8th Bob Chase.

Saturday was the Medley Stableford with 90 in the field. 

Ben Tallent was the winner in A grade with 41 points from Neville Birch on 40 points.

In B grade Paul Legg was the winner from Brett Overton on a count back, both scoring 41 points. 

NTP: 3rd Margaret Stanbrook and Mark Wilson, 5th Daryl Morgan, 9th David Spencer, 12th John Prictor and Margaret Stanbrook, 17th Nathan Riordan and Margaret Maynard, 18th Jason Plant.

Coming events: Wednesday the men play Multiplication Stableford off the White Markers, ladies Stroke Monthly Medal and putting, Saturday the ladies play Stroke with the 1st round of Club Championships and the men will play Stableford. 

COOMEALLA

MICHAEL Golitschenko with 38 points proved too strong for his opposition in last Wednesday’s A grade Stableford monthly medal defeating Gary Fumberger on 37 points.

B Grade winner was Graeme Burrows 37 points, runner up Sean Bromley 36 points and third Neil Saunders 35 points.

C Grade was taken out by Mark Lee with 35 points from Max Stocker 35 points and David Tierney 35 points.

NTP: 3rd Ross Robertson 927cms, 7th Paul Booth 94cms, 11th Greg Rhodes 180cms , 18th Ryan Samaras 180cms. 

The ladies Stroke & Putting monthly medal was won by Karyne Scheer 68 Nett from Nia Whittle 73 Nett. 

NTP: 3rd Janice Walker 51cms , 7th Sue Arthur 334cms , 11th Maureen Bailey 15cms, 18th Jenny Smith 128cms. 

Last Friday’s Medley 9 hole Stableford was won by Peter Vandenberg 22 points, runner up was Mark Alvey 19 points.

NTP: 11th Mark Hann 725cms , 18th Jacob Simmon 298cms.

Saturday’s men’s Stroke Monthly Medal winner in A grade was James Orpwood 69 Nett from Craig Tung 71 nett and Ross Robertson 71 nett.

B grade winner was Neil Saunders 70 nett and Sean Bromley 70 nett, 3rd – Paul Wright 71 nett.

C grade winner Terry Albion 63 nett, runner up Rodney Hand 68 Nett and third Ben Pitt 68 nett. 

NTP: 3rd Ian Petrac 85cms, 7th Nathan Gard 65cms, 11th Alan Scorer 146cms, 18th Tim O’Neill 110cms. 

Ladies stroke and putting monthly award winner Kylie Walters 70 nett, runner up Frann Sette 71 nett.

NTP: 3rd Nia Whittle 25cm, 7th Susan Mills 947cms, 11th Frann Sette 71cms , 18th Maureen Bailey 320cms.

Putting prize went to Lee Bottomley 28 Putts.

Sunday’s Medley Stableford winner was Zachary Weight 41 points, runner up was Doug Rowsell 40 points and third prize went to Gary Thomas 40 points.

NTP: 3rd Aaron Blake 400cms, 7th Gary Thomas 86cms, 11th Matt Bottomley 235cms, 18th Dean Anderson 55cms.

WENTWORTH

IT’S not often 33 points proves a winning score, but that was enough to get Donny Sproh over the line in last Thursday’s men’s Stableford at Wentworth Golf Club. Runner up with 32 points was Howard Hankinson.

NTP: Ged Chapman 354 cm on the 2nd.

Mr Risky went to VET Ron Moore with 32 pts

Sunday’s secretaries Stablford event saw Ged Chapman grab the win again with 33 points with Bill Slee runner up. 

Mr Risky went to P. W. Pavlich with 15 points.

RIVERSIDE

OVER the past two weeks, Riverside has lost two of its Life Members.

John West and Charlie Watson both passed away, but their contribution to the Riverside Golf Club will live on.

John played an integral part in the reconstruction of Riverside after the floods in the early 70’s. Over the many years that followed, he continued to volunteer in any way possible. 

One of the highlights of John’s golfing career was his hole in one on the 12th in 1982.

Charlie not only put his heart and soul into his beloved Riverside in a physical sense, he also held the position of president from 1973 through to 1976. 

He also held the position of captain in 1979 and 1980. 

Among Charlie’s many highlights on the golf course included holing out in one on three separate occasions in 1982 on the 4th, 1989 on the 18th and 1996 on the 7th.

Both men volunteered countless hours at Riverside and will be sadly missed by all members.

The medley Stableford played June 8 saw Shane Johnson win on a count back from Rob Arnold in A Grade, both on 36pts.

Cliff Young with 33pts took first place in B grade over Robin Ferris, Cape Schanok (32pts).

Tuesday’s ladies Stableford saw Linda Dickson finish with 39pts to grab top honours.

There was also a nine hole competition for the ladies with Prue Hyde smashing out 19pts to be on top in front of Liz Wallace in second place on 18pts.

On Wednesday George Riordan won A grade with 39 points.

Jason Marks finished runner up beating Gary Sharman on a count back, both on 35pts.

John Wass had a super score of 39pts in B grade for his win over John Fraser on 35pts.

Caroline James left all smiles on Thursday coming away with a comfortable win in A grade after a mighty (89/70). 

Linda Dickson kept her game running smoothly from Tuesday, grabbing runner up on (102/76).

Ladies captain, Linda Young also produced an excellent score (104/71) to take the honours in B grade. 

Second place was a battle between three players with Sally Watson winning on a count back from Dorothy Knight and Margie McIntyre, all on 76nett.

Caroline topped off her day by leaving with the Monthly Medal and the Putting Trophy (26 putts).

With 44 in Friday’s nine hole Stableford field, Shane Johns made the day his with a score of 21pts, Zepp Deckert second on 20pts.

Chitra Rankin was back to her best on Saturday saw winning with an outstanding round of (87/70).

Runner up was Margie Lampard (87/74). This also gave Chitra the Monthly Award and Margie the Putting trophy (27 putts).

The men played off for their Monthly Medal on Saturday in three grades with a field of 100.

The A grade Medal went to Larry Cavallaro (81/71) after a count back from Zepp Deckert (79/71).
Ian Fleming put together a great score in B grade for the Medal (87/72), just one in front of Ned Klemm (87/73).

John Wass was very pleased with his Medal winning (89/71) in C Grade. 

Cliff Young (100/73) matched it with Greg Butcher (94/73) for runner up with Cliff having the better back nine.

Aaron Jefferey may not have been in the winners circle, but did show his talent on the Par five, second hole, for an Eagle.

Sunday’s Medley Stableford was won by Kevin Aston with a fantastic 38pts from Damien Arney on 37pts.

MERBEIN

ROGER Walder won a hotly contested Stableford event on Wednesday with 37 points.

Saturday saw Ryan Teasdale play champagne golf on his way to scoring 40 points and winning on a count back from Bear Lanigan who played a far better game this week than his previous outing.

Results: Wednesday: R. Walder 37 points, A. Rudd 36 points.

Ball winners: F. Drayton 36 points, F. Crouch 36 points, H. McGaffin 36 points.

NTP: 6th R. Walder 460 cm, 8th M. Cook AFLW, 12th G. Kerr 198 cm, 14th R. Walder, 16th R. Walder 690 cm, 18th M. Cook.

Saturday: R. Teasdale 40 points, B. Lanigan 40 points.

NTP: 2nd M. Wilkes 580 cm, 3rd M. Vinning 190 cm, 6th M. Wilkes 400cm, 8th M. Wilkes 990 cm, 12th B. Lanigan 222 cm, 14th M. Cook 49 cm.

MILDURA

THE open 4BBB Stableford medley on June 8 saw Philip Green and Brad Fox scores 45 points, just enough for a win, with Perry Hill and

Peter Palazzo finishing second on 44 points and Nathan Willis and Lachlan Cottrell third on 43 points. 

The Ladies 9 hole competition on June 9 was won by Elaine Henshall with Mavis Clinch second on countback, both players scoring 15 points. 

The 18 hole competition on the same day was won by Jan Mierswa on 36 points, second was Eileen Raeck on 33 points and balls were warded to players with 31 points or better.

The men’s Monthly Mug stroke competition on June 10 was held in two grades. 

James Hancock had 69 strokes to win A grade from Ross Bowen (70) and Alan Lay (74). 

The best net score of the day was in B grade where Peter Palazzo had 68 nett for a win over Dale Stafford and Ferdi Bergamin, both on 72 nett. 

Twenty five balls were awarded to players with 76 nett or better. 

Rob Toms won the “Pig” prize on the second hole with a shot landing 830 cm from the pin.

The ladies end of week competition held on June 12 and Saturday June 16 was won by Sandra Folie on 35 points with Ruth Rodi second on 33 and Emmalee Beggs third on 32 points.

The men’s competition on June 13 was held in three grades with 27 balls awarded to players with a net score of 73 or better. 

Paul Daly won A grade with 66 nett from Joe Rocca on net 70 and Josh McAskill on 72. 

B grade was won by Michael Sette on 68 nett, Robert Briggs also had 68 nett and was second on countback, third was Alex Barber on 69 nett. 

C grade results were similar, the winner being Tony Beyen on 68, second Ross Williams 68 nett and third Perry Hill 69 nett. 

Twenty seven balls were handed out to players with net 73 or better. Alan Lillia won the nearest the pin prize on the second hole, with a shot that finished 262 cm from the pin.

The veteran men played single Stableford on June 15 and the winner was Keith Williams on 43 points, second was Ross Bowen 34 points and third was John Edwards 33 points. 

Golf games for the next week at Mildura are mens single Stableford on July 17, ladies 18 hole Stableford on July 19, men’s single par and ladies 18 hole Stableford on Saturday July 20, Mildura Veterans single Stableford on July 22; ladies 9 hole 4BBB Stableford on July 23 and a combined Stableford in two’s on July 24.
