HOLDEN dealers will fight on for more compensation from Holden Australia.
Holden Australia is offering $1500 per vehicle, some of the capital cost of dealerships and five years of parts and servicing as part of its dealer package as it exits Australian manufacturing.
But many dealers are not happy with this arrangement and, after mediation failed last week, the matter could head to court.
Earlier this year General Motors shocked the community and Australian Holden dealerships by axeing the Holden brand.
When the news broke in February, Holden was set to become part of the new multi-dealership development on Fifteenth Street, Mildura, known as Mildura Motor Holdings.
The Holden news did not have a big impact on Mildura Motor Holdings, which stocks multiple marques.
Mildura Motor Holdings managing director Garry Davison told Sunraysia Daily he was in the dark regarding whether the dealers would end up in court.
“There’s clearly a lot bigger dealers than us and they’ve probably got a better idea,” Mr Davison said.
“We’re just leaving it in the hands of the Holden Dealer Council.”
Mildura Motor Holdings group general manager Paul Shelly said the group was still looking forward to having part of the Holden brand here in Mildura for a long time to come.
“We’ve still got 30-plus brand new cars here to sell so we’re still very much in Holden mode at the moment and look forward to a strong relationship with Holden,” he said.
Mr Shelly said the new dealership on Fifteenth Street was going well.
“The staff are settling in and we’re getting a lot of traffic, so we look forward to some good times,” he said.
