VETERANS

OUR proposed Ouyen golf day for July 20 has been cancelled. Despite the best efforts of Scott Brady and the club committee the restrictions that have remained in place due to COVID-19  make it impractical.

The event can’t be rescheduled because the course is not available in the near future.

Those of us who have experienced this round in previous years would remember that the strength of day is the social aspect. This is enhanced by the opportunity to enjoy playing on sand scrapes in the company of locals.

The warm welcome and homemade lunch made the trip down the Sunraysia Highway a day to remember. Conversations when travelling with mates made the trip easy. Players were able to shared the buggy towed behind.

We enjoyed the prizes and the trophies that are uniquely Ouyen.

This year without food, a limit of just 20 people inside and ten outside, no shotgun start and possible travel limits of one per car means the day won’t be the same.

On top of that with COVID-19 infections increasing in the state the reality is that restrictions are unlikely to be eased over the next few weeks.

The next event that may proceed, depending on circumstances, will be the August 3 event at Red Cliffs.

This too will rely on things improving but hopefully we will be able to restart our competition.

We will keep negotiations going, seek feedback from committee members and will keep players up to date each week.

Until then, happy golfing.
